I get up this morning and start up wow as usual and it freezes after i put in my password and hit enter. My mouse still moves but the wow background is froze/locked. I noticed that last night when i was done playing a background loader popped up but had some kind of error, i just hit the cancel or ok button and turned off the puter. Now this morning i can't play, just locks up after i press the enter button....anyone know whats wrong? Im thinking it was something with the wow background loader.
Try to run just the wow executable file and bypass the launcher.

Make with computer specs, as per sticky.
Try the WoW Repair tool, located in the base directory for the game.
Could you discribe better at what point it freezes? I actually hit enter several times from clicking the program icon to arriving at the position where I am controlling my character; so what are you pressing 'enter' for at that point? When you have entered the login details? At the Launch program? At the Character Menu? This discription needs some clarification to say the least.

It's when i go to log into the game. When i type in my password to get in to play, it locks up when i hit enter. I've tried everything i knew plus I just deleted wow and did a clean install and it's the same problem. My last resort is updating my apple software, which is just the new itunes 8.0 and quicktime, so unless it's the itunes, something could be seriously wrong. It worked just fine when i went to bed last night, wake up this morning and now it's broke.

Nope, the apple updates didn't fix it either, something has completely broke wow on my computer. I run a Mac so theres no viruses. I still think it's that background loader that keeps popping up when I launch wow.

You could disable the downloader (I think you can change the settings so it downloads when you quit playing WoW rather than while playing WoW).

I'm a Mac user and I have never experienced such a problem. That pesky background downloader doesn't interfere with my running WoW. I got the iTunes update and it isn't bothering me. Computer problems are often complex. Why don't you give us your specs? What Mac? How much RAM? Which OS? What video card? Hard disk, is it getting full, or are you using an external? Have you tired repairing disk permissions? Have you disabled mods? Do other games work okay? How about you internet connection? If it was faulty you'd not be able to go anywhere after logging on and hitting enter. When you reinstalled WoW did you do all the updates? Well, I had to ask, of course you did.
The Apple discussion forums are very good, you could post your problem there. Usually you get an answer pretty quick.

Restated because it has apparently been overlooked. System specs, as asked for both in the sticky and on this thread.

OK, while specs would be nice, they're not going to be the issue when it worked one day and not the next. Basically, something has changed. WoW will not just have stopped working for no reason... something's different. So, did you do ANYTHING to the machine the night before it stopped working? I don't care how small it seems, if you changed something it's a possible cause (for example plugging in a new peripheral). However let's say you didn't. Presuming you really did a clean install (deleting the WoW folder and emptying the Trash), I'd bet on one of two or three things:
1) RAM that's gone bad. It's relatively rare, but it happens. If you installed new ram the day before it started with the crashing, remove that RAM. You can test RAM using Rember (download it from Macupdate.com). Run the test, walk away, let it run. If it passes, RAM's not the issue.
2) Hard drive space. You could have been on the edge of enough disk space, added some stuff and now you don't have enough.
3) Heat. WoW causes my Macbook to run hot... could be that cumulative exposure to heat has caused something to start failing. If this happens right away, though, that's not likely the issue.
4) Network. Hit Speedtest.net and see what your download, upload and ping are at.
5) Character issue on the WoW server. Try creating a new toon either on your realm or on some other realm. If you can create a new toon, zone in and wal around, it's an issue on the server and you'll need to open a ticket (use a new toon on the same server).
Oh and you can just close the downloader.

You type your password in, hit enter, and it locks immediately? Does the little status box with "connecting", "retrieving characters", etc. pop up? If so how far does it get?
Things to try:
Disable firewalls.
Run WoW straight from the EXE instead of the launcher (this will prevent the background downloader from laucnhing).
Run the Blizzard Repair Tool.
Clean reinstall WoW.

I've done all of the above. It WAS the background downloader. I disabled it and now can connect. Only thing now is getting the wow download the little patch without it locking me up again.

You can just get it on patch day or use a mirror (http://a.wirebrain.de/wow/). You want the files under "Patch 3.0.1 Background Downloader Parts (9/11/2008)".
