OK so the official announcement is made - I go hunting and sure enough its like rocking horse DoDo

So I go to america and I get the right page on amazon US... Have ordered from there before - and so I try to buy...

And the result is:

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o214/hakme2deth/nowrathoflichkingUK.jpg

Why? Give me a good reason? Localisation of software? nope - its ENGLISH! Content different? Nope ITS A MOUSE MAT! Different format? Well the DVD may be but I dont care cos I dont want to watch a bunch of geeks telling me how they code and draw!!! I just want the pet, the mat, the cards and any other collector stuff!!! Region 1 vs Region 2? WTF!!!!

Now I have to find it from some 3rd party who dont care where it comes from - 3 months late!!!!

Why am I being treated like a second class player when Blizz are happy to take my subs each month???

Uhm.. US version of the client isn't fully compatible with the UK version, unless you do some extra tinkering. Not impossible by any means, but it's an extra hurdle. Most folks don't know how to do it anyway, so saving them from themselves might indeed be prudent.

Also, they prefer if folks play on the regions they're closest to/located within, that's always been the case. I tried ordering the US version of WoW from the EU ages ago, wouldn't deliver, exact same reasoning as mentioned in your picture. I sent it to a friend, and it suddenly became fine.

Said friend had a slight accident with a flooding ruining goods, hence why I eventually settled down on the EU servers anyway, but that's another issue.

I'd also like to point out that neither the US or EU version of the Blizzard store had it up yet either, so further announcements on the Collector's Edition are quite probable.

dumb thread of the week award goes to you, gz.

There is a difference, US game = us realms.
Wait for amazon.co.uk to list the game. It will be there soon, will it kill you to wait? If you do happen to play on US realms, that's your own fault. Tons of items from amazon.com cannot be shipped here, grow up and qq less

Don't make me QQ you... You won't like it when I QQ you.

Honestly, quit your friggin whining. Waaaahhhh, I can't get something that is made for the US, not to mention, US people need them too... If everyone from everywhere could use the US version, we'd have only a few to ourselves.

Enough with the snark folks. This isn't some goldseller or somebody trying to sell you some prime beach property located in Nebraska, nor is it the official forums.

Keep Commandment 1 in mind, when posting.

Don't Amazon US have apolicy not to ship to the UK because they have a UK site? I've run into this problem before. And that's ignoring the client incompatibility issue.

Not sure, I know that I've bought other things with them (mostly novels), and had them delivered to Continental Europe with nary a problem. This despite the UK being closer to me.

But I have noticed that they do tend to get ornery over computer games for some reason. *shrugs*

im not trying to be mean, but i totally do not understand the reasoning behind this thread. i mean i read it and it doesnt seem at all unfair in any way, shape, or form that Amazon will not send this product to the UK, as if Blizz and Amazon has totally ignored their customer base over there. I mean hey, im still waiting for the Authenticators to be available. as of last night, they were still sold out. i've given up hope on getting one from bliz even, and i only check up on the stock once a week now. but even that doesnt call for a thread to cry about unfairness and how Blizz would treat Americans as second class players.

if anything, it should be the austrailians who should be upset. they get their release a full day behind everyone else.

I understand that the OP is a bit annoyed. I had books shipped from US no problem..but I really want a CE (if possible in english) and I cannot get it here in Germany atm..and also not from amazon uk...so one looks everywhere.

Didn't know about the compatibility problem though :(

Man, Pharoahe and Mazhulsage...why the hate?

I can understand his frustration, but to me he goes overboard with the reaction;

1) the pre-order sales were announced ONE day ago, the UK website has yet to update the Collectors Edition. It will happen. No need to say Blizzard is screwing him...melodramatic reaction to say the least.
2) Its a safe bet he has the UK version of the game, so Amazon is actually doing him a favour by not selling him the US version. And again, its not Blizzard screwing him. Amazon USA are fine with selling music CDs and Books, but understandably they avoid selling computer items.

Just because Amazon.co.uk have not updated the site, does not mean it wont be selling it. They sold WoW CE and TBC CE, there is no reason to think they wont sell the WLK CE. Again its a PRE-ORDER which is 2 months away. No need to whine..

Also I dont get the whole "UK players shafted *again*" statement. I dont remember a single case of Blizzard shafting UK players (except maybe vanilla WoW was released later here). Sure UK consumers suffer in many ways but thats not Blizzards fault.

Didn't know about the compatibility problem though :(

Like I said, they can be overcome, but for most folks it's simply not a valid option. Heck, a lot of users don't make use of add-ons either, so tinkering around with the realmlist just isn't prudent.

And then there's the issue of you still needing the patches of the client you're working on. So the US client would need US patches and not EU/UK ones. And, if there's a version discrepancy between the two than you can't play.

So, if the EU version of the patch were at say 3.05, whereas the US one were at 3.04, this due to some localization correction patching, then you wouldn't be able to play. And you'd only be able to resume play after you were back at a parity in the patch versions.

Plus, there's no guarantee that a US CE of an expansion would even work with an EU/UK version of the pre-existing client installed. Haven't heard anything on the tech forums back when TBC was released about something similar, so that would make me wary about everything working as well.

(It's the same way that US/EU timecards won't work on for their opposing clients. So US timecards do zilch for an EU account, whereas EU timecards do zilch for US accounts.)

Err, how am I going overboard compared to his "Omfg, Blizzard yet again shows their no care of Europe when it's an item exclusively meant for the US!"? I don't get how I'M going overboard with what I said. Plus, I was fairly nice compared to what easily could have been said.

Plus, there's no guarantee that a US CE of an expansion would even work with an EU/UK version of the pre-existing client installed. This is the real issue. Even ignoring the technical problems with client versions needing to match and having to manually edit the realmlist you simply cannot use a US upgrade code on an EU account.

will the pet code even work on the eu version?

I forgot to mention...

I had already Pre-Ordered the STANDARD EU version from Amazon when WOTLK was first listed - many many MANY months ago - so will get that on day 1.

But many thanks Valas for defending and pointing out the differences. And that I could have got around it. I didn't know that...

But just a few comments

Pharoahe: "dumb thread of the week award goes to you, gz" Thanks for the flame you unhelpful cock. grow up

Mazhulsage: "Don't make me QQ you... You won't like it when I QQ you. Honestly, quit your friggin whining. Waaaahhhh, I can't get something that is made for the US, not to mention, US people need them too... If everyone from everywhere could use the US version, we'd have only a few to ourselves." - You selfish person

elsegundo: "wow. cry because you cant "pre" order something. lol amazing." - Not because I can't pre order, but because there is racism here! - Americans. Racist and Selfish - or at least some of you are!

det: Thank you. I agree - why the rage? I think its too much coffee

Now some more info...
I bought the US version of Lost Series 1 and had it shipped. So Amazon US do ship to UK. Thats why I have an Amazon US account.

And for EU collectors edition availability at a later date???? I bought it. It turned up months later and I still had to get it shipped from the US (yes it was the EU version. Just all stock had been bought by american wholesellers) - and they even screwed up the pet where I had to deface a part of the box and send through one of the cards....

Thanks for the responses guys. Some of you have been helpful (Valas and Det in particular) and others have just shown the same arrogance and disdain for your european cousins that Blizzard have!

will the pet code even work on the eu version?

Interesting question. I have bought the german CE but the Uk normal version. I always install the UK version because I like to play in england, but enter the codes from the german version.

Then my kids get the german version installed with the UK code. Works np.

Tunga

Codes should work fine across the EU since it coutns as the same region. You can connect to any EU server with an EU version. US is a different region entirely so I doubt the code would work.

Pharoahe
17-09-2008, 01:46 PM
Also with the CE being on DVD, there is a chance the disc is region coded? Most PCs only allow you to change regions like 4 or 5 times (this is old knowledge, so i dont know if thats still the case...and a game might be region 0 anyway)

Right you've all had your say, insults have been thrown and responded to. Any more and this thread will have to close, which would be a shame because it's actually quite informative if you overlook all the silliness. Anyone seen making nasty remarks from this point on may also be subject to a temp ban. I have a cold, I'm grumpy.

Now, back on track: This might be of interest to some of you:

I haven't seen it appear yet on the Amazon.co.uk site and yes I have been looking for it ;-) I suspect and hope now we have announced it on our site and provided official details, that they and other places should soon have it available.

Maybe you wanna check mmo-champion. They do have moderators...but the amount of flames, racism, homophobia and insults being thrown left and right is actually turning me off before I even managed to post a fair bit.

But compared to the community forum here, that place is roaring with new posts (most of them however go something like this:
Thread: "OMG! My (class xx) got nerfed! I hate the world! I quit the game"
127 Repies of "STFU n00b! You class is fine, mine sucks...yadda, yadda, yadda"

Seems to attract a lot of people ^^

You have the EU version of the game, but are complaining about not being able to buy the US version which is incompatible with the version you have. Sounds to me that Amazon is doing you a favour.

Also it says Location: London by every post I make.

You're welcome to discuss things Mazhulsage, this is a forum after all. But when the posts become flames, it's time to stop the thread.

If any of you have a grudge with someone else for whatever reason, take it to PMs please. Don't litter the forums with this trash.
