View Full Version : gaps in items available?

My Rogue (lvl 38) uses thrown weapons to pull mobs and I like them. But it seems there's a gap in the middle of the level scale where there isn't much available. Same thing with crossbows. I thought briefly of having my Hunter (lvl 53) use them, but again, there's not much available for the middle levels.
Am I missing something here? Maybe there are vendors that have a real array of each? Or is it just a lack within the game? There's really not been much on the AH over about three weeks of checking, so I'm thinking one of the foregoing must be true.
You can check the database on WoWhead but for the most part I've noticed the same thing. I'm a level 54 Rogue and I'm still using a set of throwing axes from way long ago.
Blacksmiths can make throwing weapons, but they hardly bother with it and they are hardly on AH. Some items are really hard to find these days..and it is worse since less and less ppl level up, so less items drop. And if those ppl are like me, they just sell every green to a vendor...too much hassle on AH. Hardly anyone buys things at lv 35 that costs 5-10 gold, and the juicy items are outrageously priced (lv 40-50 plate for 30-80 gold. GREEN plate)

Yep, on my paladin project when I hit 40 and replaced my mail with "appropriate" plate and bought my new skills I spent well over 100G (I forgot the exact total). PRices are just silly mostly because of lack of supply of items and increasing supply of money. Classic inflation.
Back OT my priest alt project has been using the same wand for 15 levels, there just doesn't seem to be a good shadow wand showing up on the AH.

Thanks to all. I'm somewhat relieved to know that it isn't just my perceptions, although that doesn't help my two guys at all. It's disappointing - I thought crossbows looked great, but no matter how great an item you need to level it up from time to time. And I too am using the same throwing axes on my Rogue I've been using for about ten levels. It's too bad, too, because it means that everybody in a particular class ends up using much the same weapons - there's little variety.

Try switching to guns. I used those on my own Rogue for quite a long time, only replacing it with crossbows/thrown when the new item had better stats - which is just about the only good reason a Rogue has a ranged weapon anyway. A PvE Rogue, that is.

Don't worry about the level throwns or any ranged on a rogue pre-70. Aside from the stats on it, the weapon is only useful to pull mobs, it doesn't contribute significantly to your damage.

i think there's better things to worry about for a rogue than the throwing weapon. its purpose is really just to pull, and if it stops doing that, then sure, complain. but i'd worry about my swords or daggers and all my other gear before i would even care about the ranged "pulling" weapon. mind you, this is coming from a guy who doesnt mind pulling with faerie fire, a debuff that causes no damage whatsoever.

Would like to see them add (a lot) more fist weapons, there isn't really a great selection to choose from especially at lower lvl's and until you get above 60 or so they seem more than a little /meh

I have to agree with you. Fist weapons seemed to be another different sort of weapon for a Rogue and somehow appropriate given the slightly underhanded nature of a Rogue. But again, major gaps. Guess it's just the game. Nothing's oerfect.

Oh the irony! I have never (that I can recall) had a thrown weapon drop and last night "Wooden boomerang of the Monkey" dropped. +8 Agility, +12 Stamina. Very nice for my 59 Rogue who still had the Highland bow quest reward ;)

Seems to me that drops (but not quest rewards) got a lot better with that last patch. Quest rewards I think remain generally unrewarding, all too often something that is too low a level for your character or something he can't use or wear. Drops, though...... I've found some quite spectacular ones lately. Also a lot more rares being sighted I think in areas where I have never encountered one before.

The quest rewards as soon as you hit Outlands are certainly better than earlier rewards. The chest and weapons were a major upgrade for my rogue, but I know what you mean about the earlier stuff.

Quoted for truth.
A rouge only needs a ranged weapon for stats and pulling. 99.9% of a rogue's damage comes from melee. Even if the weapon is 20 levels old, if it's giving you stamina and/or agility, it's good for you, unless you find one that gives more stamina or agility.
And a note about using guns/bows/crossbows as a rogue or warrior: You have NO NEED for a quiver or ammo pouch. Just lug around one or two stacks of ammo in your regular bags. You have no real need to be carrying anymore then 200-400 pieces of ammo at any one time.
