hey, just wondering if making a new char just to use as a bank is ok with game rules?

You mean to use an alt character to control the Guild bank, or to send items and loot to him/her? If so both are within the rules ;)

I think if it wasn't, just about everyone would be in trouble...

Yeah - I think you'd find many have a low level character that manages the bank and Auction House too. I do.

Lots of people have so-called 'bank characters'. Some are expanded, and have their private guild (as in, no other members but that bank character) so that the player has even more storage room. They even dress them up nicely in a tuxedo and they never get to see Azeroth since all they do is run from the mailbox to the AH to the bank and back to the mailbox.
I guess it's only a matter of time before any of them start a Banker Liberation Front.

You will not break any rules, not even close if you make a character to handle all you ah/bank business.
before the the guildbank was introdueced i had 2-3 chars handling various trade materials and random loot.
I now have 1 character that has its own guild and 3 tabs in the guild bank.
all ah and bank business is conducted solely from that character.
