Mages:

Intellect for- a larger mana pool, increased spell crit chance,
Spirit for- increased health and mana regeneration.
Stamina for- more life.

Same for Warlocks.

See here for more of an explanation of the class specific values of the attributes in question: http://www.wowwiki.com/Attributes

Depends on what your doing. I'm assuming you're talking about leveling so I'll run with that.

(assuming you're not able to stack +dmg gear yet)

Mage:
Int: Larger mana pool means less down time.
Stam: You're not leveling if you're dead.
Spirit: It helps with regen, but not anything spectacular (especially since evo isn't based on spirit anymore).

Lock
Int: Larger mana pool means less down time.
Stam: Lifetap makes your health bar an extension of your mana pool.

in order of importance at your level:
Mages:
Int, Stam, Spi

Locks:
Stam, Int, Spi.

its a little more complicated for locks depending on build. also, once you get higher in levels, you might consider spell damage as a stat. this is for PvE, btw, as PvP would have a different priority.

finally, if you have enough money, look for gear that is labeled "...of the Eagle". this simply tells you that it has int/stam bonuses.

This might change a bit in WotLK as spirit becomes a bigger importance, but right now, warlocks do not need spirit....

They need the same stats but in different priority.
Mage:
Int
Stam
Spirit

Lock
Stam
Int
Don't really need spirit

Hey guys,

Kind of on topic... trying to help out my g/f play her mage. I remember when I was leveling my priest (shadow) I was primarily going for +dmg, as that's what I was read and taught. At what point should she begin stacking +spell dmg and +spell hit? There were a couple of items that dropped when we ran her through Scarlet Monestary that she didn't jump on because they had +dmg instead of +int. Otherwise on every other item she's stacking +int, +stam, +spirit.

Thanks!

Hehe..I learned on my priest the hard way that you want spirit or downtime is killing you. Hell..you even have a talent called spirit tap that I really missed when I switched to holy.

Stamina..hum...little bits..you have a bubble and can self heal in emergencies...spelldamage? Starting in Outland, really.

Basically in Azeroth, take whatever you can get..in Outland these things take care of themselves, items are better customised IMHO. Spellhit figures in once you raid, not earlier unless you feel you MUST kill mobs 3 lv above you....

:) We haven't been having issues with the 3 (or even 5) levels above where we are at. Having my hunter has been a god send in that regards. I don't know if it's just because I know how to play the hunter, or know the game enough to go out and learn what to do and what spec to get... but killing things higher level is really no problem. Only is a problem if I get 4 mobs on me 4 levels higher and I can't keep my pet up enough with Mend Pet lol.

Hehe..well..good for you. The thing is that mobs 4 lv above you mean a 28% lower chance for you to hit them..and with the lowered XP needed and more XP gained from quests it is beyond me why you want to fight mobs that are so high above you..but hell..it is your game... ;)

Hehe, it isn't like we're going out of our way to find them. :) Never happened to run through an area killing things your level, and them bam you stumble into the "other side of the tracks" and run into something 4 levels higher? :)

Just saying it's nice!

Nah, was just asking, because I met people who claim they either run out of quest and can only do red quests now or who only do red and orange quests because they think it rewards more exp. But ofc most quests are made to solo..and already as a duo you want a challenge :)

If you habitually do mobs several levels above you or if you play a dual weilding class, then you need +hit...otherwise you take what you need to survive and have less downtime (for many classes that means a high First Aid skill, as bandaging is faster than eating).

I'd worry about stats in raids...well..you still don't want agility on a mage or Int on a warrior :)

This is the way I roll.

Mage: Roll Human for perception since rogues will target you
Spell Crit
Spell Power
Stamina/Intelect

Loc: Roll gnome for lager mana pool and escape artist to get out of crippling poison
Spell Power
Stamina

Nooooo...wrong faction ^^

(and you gonna lose perception as it is now as human, you will only have +1 stealth perception in LK)
