Maybe you should stop using zone alarm? I know a lot of people are having problems with it at the moment. I use Comodo and have had no problems.

ZA is renowned for doing this kind of thing, get a better Firewall.

i know za can be a pain to config at times but it has saved me from trojans and virus's that friends have picked up with different firewalls so for my own piece of mind ill stick with za and just keep cursing untill i figure out what setting i need to alter

Example of what ZA can do:

I once had a PC that was unable to ping or tracert any address. There was no obvious cause and no other major symptoms. Eventually I found a forum post where others had a similar problem. The fix: reinstalling ZoneAlarm, disabling the firewall, and uninstalling it again.

Any application that cannot uninstall itself properly counts as Malware in my eyes.

in all honesty use the built in one that comes with the OS, I only ever use an antivirus product, have never needed to worry about infections etc. If I get something that's of dubious nature then I won't open it on my normal machine, I will open it in a virtual environment instead.

Be careful with your browsing and you generally won't have any issues.

As an added level of security look at the ports you need open and close those you don't.

I hate zone. About 2 yrs ago I tried to uninstall it. It would not uninstall. I went to their site and there was 2 pages of info on how to uninstall it. you had to do stuff in the correct order of the other stuff on the directions. FINALLY got it done and still wonder whats left.
ZA sucks.

Tunga I agree completly. I have not seen a program in a long time that completely uninstalled itself. Most leave stuff both for updates, reinstall or just to flag you as someone in their database.

And of course I realise that most apps leave things behind but there's also a big difference between leaving a few registry/temp folders behind (which I can easily clear up myself if I care) and leaving a partially installed firewall driver which prevents my hardware from working properly unless I reinstall the software!!

I run ESET Smart Security now, very impressed with it, includes NOD32 and a decent firewall. I had some trouble getting my 360 to work with it when using ICS but I just moved house and now my 360 goes straight onto my router instead. ZoneAlarm, for example, just outright doesn't support ICS.
