View Full Version : Did I Make The Right Choice Picking Warrior?

In the previous MMO I played (Guild Wars), the most powerful class was the Warrior. I started playing WoW around 5 days ago for the 1st time ever, and have gotten a Warrior to level 12 because I assumed Warriors were powerful in this game aswell, but I've read some things that have made me wonder whether I picked the right choice:

- I read a thread which was voting on the most powerful class in the game, and Warriors had hardly any votes.

- Somebody in that thread said "I feel sorry for all the Warriors out there"....

- Another person replied to the person above saying something along the lines of "yes, unfortunately warriors ARE underpowered".

Am I to believe that Warriors aren't all that powerful then? Obviously when I get better at the game, I'd like to take my character to do some PvP, and I'd like to be somewhat powerful, but I'm not sure about the class I picked now.

I like playing as powerful class, and like I said, I assumed Warrior WAS one, but it seems it's not so I'm not really sure what to do. Should I carry on? I mean, what are Warriors used for in the game? Are they in high demand for certain things (e.g. dungeons etc)?

If they aren't really that powerful I can't see why they would be used for anything other than to "tank", but I don't particularly want to play a class JUST to be able to tank & gather up all the enemies so that the rest of the team can blast them away.

Meh, I'm not sure and could really do with some advice on this one.

Thanks a lot in advance!

If you want to powerplay, go for a Druid.

Anyway, back on topic: the thing with Warriors is that most people only like them for their tanking abilities, and there are a lot of people who don't take kindly to one who goes dps. A Warrior tank has some nice plusses, although they're not The Perfect Tank: in some cases you might like a Paladin tank better, or even a Druid tank.. but that depends on the fights, the other party members (AoE casters love pallies because of their ability to hold aggro on multiple mobs, for instance), and the situation. You seem to dislike tanking, so a Warrior may not be a good choice indeed.

If you don't want to have a class that "would be used for anything other than to tank", then I believe you might indeed just want to choose a different class. In your case, I think you might enjoy either a Paladin or a Druid: those are the only classes who can fill all 3 roles (tank, healer, dps) depending on their gear/spec. You'll probably like the versatility of these classes, as you can try out tanking if you're tired of dps, go feral and be both a tank and a dps, and heal if you're tired of never being able to find a healer for your instance group.

its all down tohow you play your class on how good you are. re the last op with druids being overpowered on my war i think i can count the druids that have beat me 1 on 1 on 1 hand.
warriors suffer at low lvls and you will find them very hard to get used to but as you lvl up and keep your gear as good as you can for your lvl you will find warriors kill a lot easier.
if you want to play lots of dungeons then a warrior is prob the choice to be, warriors make "probably" the best tank in the game and for high end pvp they can more than hold their own

Warrior's are going to be better tuned in WotLK. Fury is definately awesome, no clue about Arms but it looks good, and Prot is friggin crazy with the DPS it puts out and it's a "No death" spec. So is Fury (for the most part when just soloing) from the looks of it.

Dual-Wielding 2H'ers is my main thing in the PTR's so far, and I'm only level 66. I wonder how truely powerful it is at 70 when people can dual-wield 120+ DPS weapons.

Warriors are pretty powerful, but people like to nit-pick and magnify stuff out. Warriors tend to come out with a "get out a bad situation"-card less than others. Compare to rogues and hunters who are built for cheating death (Rogues even have a talent called "Cheat Death" !!).

Plenty of people play Warriors and even when they are not tanking they are kicking butt. The big thing about a warrior is that it takes good gear to get that satisfying splat or crunch when you swing your weapons around.

In the end it's all temporary. Blizzard constantly tunes the classes and balance shifts every couple of months. Play long enough and you'll have felt overpowered several times and felt like you're running around with a "Kick me"-sign on your back several times. No matter what your class is. You'll never be useless though.

Disclaimer:
Some classes are simply better at certain things. Well played Rogues and warlocks excel at PvP. Hunters could level up naked if they'd want to. Shamans have a "no brain"-heal that picks the weakest targets and heals those. Just remember that for every strength, there is a weakness.

One of the best Raid tanks and an awesome PvP class. Thier Fury DPS is quite good when properly geared, but tend to lack buffs that other classes might want.

They can however do all 3, with high demand for 2 of their specs so I wouldn't call them "underpwered".

In PvE warriors are excellent. Highly sought after tanks, good dps as fury and nice melee damage buffers as arms.

In PvP warriors are a very popular class as well, the main downside is that you really need good gear and a healer to become a pvp monster. Solo pvp as a new level 70 can be a tad frustrating.

Thanks a lot guys. I think I'm gonna stick with Warrior for a bit longer & see how it goes, because I've already restarted once after getting to level 15.

If I was to change class I'd probably go either mage or warlock. Are these used at all for anything in PvE?

wow. dude, you're not even level 20 yet!! lol yes listen to these guys.

but remember that every class plays a little different. you might actually like other classes. so dont worry too much about whether the warrior is the best class. actually in WoW its really meant for tanking, but i have seen some really good DPS warriors. and if course, the lower levels will be a bit slow as you wont have your specializations to help much, but yea... at least level several characters to 20 and see which you like more. i've done all except for shamans and i personally like druids in catform. however, druid cats dont get their best skills until way after level 20.

when i started playing, my partner told me the warrior was the easiest class to play. she even got into my account and created one for me, which i ended up deleted and never playing. in other RPG games, i was always best with ranged and caster classes, so those were the characters i created in world of warcraft. eventually, i started and played a warrior for 28 levels, struggled the entire way through and eventually benched (not to be mistaken with deleted) that character. so you see, it all depends on your style of play as to which is best and easiest. besides, there is nothing that says you cannot create characters of every class for every mood. geez, i am such a girl!

Warrior's begin the fun at 30, and destroy crap starting at about 50.

I ask myself the title question alot but i do eventually start having fun again. level 63 now.

20-30 was definitely the painful part for me.

......20-30 was definitely the painful part for me.

Maybe I should push through then, because my highest warrior alt is my cross-faction auction alt. Level 26 and he never leaves Booty Bay.

At L27 (i think) get Corpsemaker, it'll rekindle you with those lovely big numbers.

Yeah, from level 18-30 you have a harder and harder time leveling because it just gets so boring doing the same crap over and over at a slow pace, that's why at 30 it's so much more fun... Especially with Whirlwind Axe.
