Just got news from Bornakk that the honor reset will not happen at the release of WotLK!

Wow, I feel bad for anyone who dumped their honor recently thinking it was going to be cleared.

i don't. they should have waited for the patch in october
They basically did exactly would I suggested they do in the other thread. They are allowing people to keep their honor, but making new level 80 gear much more expensive in order to compensate.

I think that significantly more expensive honour gear is worse than an honour reset tbh

What about marks? I can't follow that link.

Yeah, thank you people who needed level 80 purples instantly for making gear cost so much more for the rest of us. I'm sure that will be worth it in the long run.

We had hoped that the introduction of some new Honor rewards in the upcoming patch would give players a great opportunity to spend any of their remaining Honor. However, many players would still be surprised by an Honor and token reset as it isn’t something we’ve done in the past. As such, we've decided to not reset Honor or tokens upon the release of Wrath of the Lich King. Players who save their Honor will be able to spend it on level 80 rewards, although those rewards will be significantly more expensive than their level 70 counterparts.
For people who can't link to the source..

"Whining gets you stuff. That's why humans ended up on the top of the food chain, and all other animals got nerfed."

Yes but its a short term win for some, but long term loss for everyone.
Now, I guess they should whine more to get the original costs restored.

I am a little dissapointed with this. Now its gonna be people speed leveling through all the new stuff just to get to max lvl PvP to get uber L337 Prplz to pwn n00bz. Oh well, I can only imagine the amount of QQ that the bliz staff must have recieved, like the elitist heavens cracked wide open and out poured their QQQQQQ and flooded the earth. Well I guess I will go through another phase of getting 1-shotted because I dont have a full set of PvP gear "lmaorofllolololo NOOOB 11111"
LOL at Shellar, that is too funny.

I would have been ok with the reset, because instant gear was never really obtainable. You had horrible blues (Go Ret with NO Res on it, but had SP) and Arena was a real jump.
I'm game for the new system as its more fair. Everyone has to put in time in Arena, but you can get the first tier without a rating.

When I first read it I saw it as good news, but some good points have been made here. I think it sucks they are going to significantly increase the gear costs... ach.. oh well. :P I'll just turn over and take it like a ...

The big question is whether they are also going to increase the honor rewards from post-70 PvP activity.
The fact that a level 80 PvP item might cost 200k might not be an issue if you can earn 30k honor in one BG session.

Good point. This would equal out any other issues that I would have had with it.

Good point and one I was going to mention as... honour gains rise as you go up in level. It depends on how much they upgrade the cost mostly and personally I hope it's just the Honour bit that goes up, rather than the marks cost.

WEll..
1) get honor pre Wrath. There's nothing stopping YOU from grinding honor fro mnow until Wrath.
2) people will NOT be able to buy a full set of gear with the maximum of 75k honor they can accumulate. And note that NO ONE will be able to get the Arena stuff straight off since Arena points ARE being reset. Any gear that needs Arena points and ratings will take some time post-release to get.
The reset itself was never the issue, it was the fact that the announced it late. If they'd announced this when Beta started in July no one could have claimed "But I've been grinding honor so I can get some pieces in Wrath!" Announcing it a week ago just made them look like jerks, especially since they'd previously said it wouldn't happen.
The best way to deal with this since they'd not announced it early enough was always to increase the price of level 80 PvP gear so that the 75k honor you can bank gives you a headstart, but not so much that you are in full PvP gear while people who didn't save any honor have nothing.

Yes I suppose it works out in the end. I had read on another forum something like the PvP rewards (epics) will also cost arena points, no longer just straight honor points. Anyone read more on this? Ive never done an arena before and dont want to. I am ok with rewards costing more, its just another grind/time sink so no big deal. And yeah, if each peice goes way up in cost, are they going to scale the honor gains accordingly or just increase a minor amount? If i think about this in terms of player retention and money making, well I can come up with my own conclusion. Can anyone elaborate on the blue post? Im at lame-ass "work" so I cant do much from here.

You will have to do Arena's. At least 10 matches a week to get points.
There are essentially 3 tiers of PvP gear at launch
"Tier 1" costs Honor and Arena points, but has no Arena rating requirement
"Tier 2" costs Honor and Arena points, but has a low Arena rating requirement.
"Tier 3" costs Honor and Arena points, but has a high Arena rating requirement.

I'll probably stop BGing much when Wrath launches. I don't like Arena, I don't like the whole issue of finding someone to play with. Yeah, I can refuse to zone in and get points, but... screw that. I don't hate that Arena is in the game, but I do dislike being forced to play it to get PvP gear. One of the best things about TBC was that you had a few different ways to gear up... in PvE, you could instance, craft, raid and for some things you could PvP and get stuff that worked well in PvE. For PvP gear you could Arena or you could BG. If you just BGed, you accepted that your gear wasn't going to be as good as if you did Arena too - and if you were fine with that, you could still get decent gear that let you have fun. Oh and you could even buy starter stuff with 2.4.
WE'll see, but I think Wrath could be a turning point in WoW's evolution. The decision to flatten the DPS classes and make them all do basically the same damage, the decision to force Arena.... Those could go either way, driving people away or getting then enthused about the game even more.

There is plenty of craftable PvP gear in Wrath.

The way I see it, arena points are just another type of BG tokens that I need to grind for my gear in addition to honor (just like I have to farm WSG/AB tokens, even though I enjoy AV and EoTS more).
