View Full Version : What Is The Best "Pulling" Type Of Weapon?

I'm a warrior, and sometimes I find it hard to kill multiple foes, so I'm thinking of buying a ranged weapon so that I can pull individual enemies from groups.

What would be the best type of weapon for this? E.g. Bow, Gun, Throwing axe?

Thanks.

throwing weapons require no bag space and can be refilled simply by repairing your gear. with a bow, crossbow or gun, you must buy ammo and and weapon as well as taking up at least one extra space in your bags. i have throwing weapons on my warrior for those reasons. as a warrior, you will not need to worry about the amount of damage done, since you are using it merely to get the mobs attention. you can use thick bronze darts (http://www.wowwiki.com/Thick_Bronze_Darts) which will give you a bonus to your strength as well.

Nice, although that makes me wonder... is that the BEST item I could use in that slot, considering I now know there's items out there which give stat boosts such as the one you mentioned above (+2 Strength).

Maybe there's ranged items out there that grant +3 or even +5 strength, or power/spirit/stamina, whatever. Do you know of any, or is the Thick Bronze Dart the best choice?

Thanks.

I have a throwing axe but when i go to attack something with it equipped he just switches back his axe automatically.

Do i need a certain skill or something as well?

you have to train "throwing" skill at a weapon master
you have to equip it in the ranged weapon slot
you have to grab the "throw" skill from you general tab and drag it to your skill bar, you click that to throw the item

you have to be at range to throw, you won't ever melee with it.

and I don't think there is a best type, just pick one based on stats...you'll only ever use it for pulling and it doesn't even matter if you hit.

once you have the silver to spare, train all of them just in case you find something good, but to save silver now, just pick one or two

your thrown weapon is purley that and shouldnt been seen as a weapon you fight with. every time you go to a city just have a look in the ah for thrown weapons when you look for other new arm, our. if you see some thing with a stat boost buy it when you can afford it

You don't say anything about your level. Tanking warriors that are in the T4 area, usually use Gyro-Balanced Khorium Destroyer (http://www.wowdigger.com/i/32756). There are several other types of ranged weapons that you can use. If stats are important for you, maybe you can browse the AH for a fitting one.

If you are under level 40 or so, don't worry about ranged weapons with stats. Except for the bronze darts and a couple of crossbow quest rewards in the Draenei area, I haven't come across anything easily attainable or low enough cost to be worth it. +2 or +3 won't make that much of a difference in a fight.

There are a few bows that come to mind with an On Hit chance to do extra damage or add a poison effect, but since you're not going to be shooting more than 2 times at any one target, I wouldn't say its worth it. (They are blue drops from instance mini-bosses or bosses, and either take a group, or would be a low level compared to you. And they are random drops so you'll need to run the instance several times).

Quoted for truth. For warriors, the ranged weapon is about extra stats. You want to equip whichever gives you the best stats, even if it's many levels old. Ranged damage is not your primary way of dealing damage.

i used that as a suggestion based on your character level (i do believe you mentioned that you were level 15 in another thread?). i believe that is the best pulling weapon that gives any stat bonuses, though i could be wrong. i believe you can equip bows that start giving stat bonuses after level 25 or so, but up until that point, they are just ranked according to the damage they do which is not really that important for you as a warrior since your main damage points will come from your melee skills.

Until he found a ranged weapon w some stats on it my Warrior used a L1 gray-quality gun. Did paltry damage, but the bullets were nice and cheap .

Actually, I'm still using the cheapest ammo I can chuck at a mob.

One thing I found helpful is that a decent ranged weapon can be used to finish off a runner that gave you the slip. Instead of running after it I'd often take a pot shot at it. 50% chance it finished the smart-ass off.

this is also a great tactic.

Come 3.0 and WotlK, the ranged weapon for a warrior will just become a stat stick. Our primary means of pulling will be our new Heroic Throw ability, a high threat, instant cast ranged ability that also silences the target for 3 seconds (if you spec into Gag Order). Perfect for pulling those annoying caster mobs.

Don't worry about it at your level---just anything will do for pulling. Of course, if it has stats, more power to you.
Once you hit 70, [and soon 80], you will be needing a gun with stats (especially in end game raiding). The gun itself will only be used for pulling--the damage of it isn't too important. The stats are what matters.

Heh, when I read the title of the post that was my first thought as well.

But seriously, a warrior is best off just treating their weapon as a piece of gear - when you find some ranged weapon that has better stats, you equip it. Ignore the bow/thrown/gun bit in the description, just look at the stats and whether that's an upgrade for you.

The only thing you could argue is that Thrown weapons don't need ammunition, and thus don't use up a bag slot.. but that's more a bit of a boon than something you should actually take into consideration.

Go to Darnassus and get bow training. Your firing speed will be slow but it works great for pulling.
