Yea, I know, rogues are technically the best for lv19, but I just really want to play a mage lol. I brought my main mage in at 18 (33 now) a while ago and had a blast, but only hoped I could have better gear. Mostly I just want to use the Inferno Robe lol.
Things I can supply it at my leisure:
Green Tinted Goggles
Thick Bronze Necklace
Bronze Band of Force
Pulsating Hydra Heart
Banshee Rod of the Sun
Evocator's Blade
Troll Knickers until I find Sanguine Sandals in the AH
Level 8
Crystalline Cuffs
Level 10
Gold-flecked Gloves
Lavishly Jeweled Ring
Level 13
Feyscale Cloak
Level 15
Talbar Mantle
Level 17
do Quest:WANTED: Syndicate Personnel, prerequisite for Quest:WANTED: Baron Vardus
Level 19
Inferno Robe, from Quest:WANTED: Baron Vardus
End result:
Head: Green Tinted Goggles
Neck: Thick Bronze Necklace
Back: Feyscale Cloak
Chest: Inferno Robe
Wrist: Crystalline Cuffs
Hands: Gold-flecked Gloves
Waist: ??
Legs: ??
Feet: Sanguine Sandals
Rings: Bronze Band of Force and Lavishly Jeweled Ring
Waist and Leg items are up in the air for me since I can't seem to find a guide giving an affordable alternative to Keller's Girdle and Darkweave Breeches. Through my own research, I've found
Bright Belt
21 armor
+4 int
+4 stam
Colorful Kilt
33 armor
+5 spirit
+6 damage/healing from spells
Fact is that I've only been playing for about a month, so 1) I can't afford all those expensive top-notch enchants, so I'll probably just make do with my main who's and expert enchanter, and 2) this is all pretty much new to me, so, if you think you're detecting ignorance, you probably are.
Is this pretty good? Are there better choices for any of these? Most of these choices I've lifted straight out of a guide, so feel free to let me know if there's a better choice I've yet to see. Keep in mind I pretty much can't afford to buy rare drops that every warlock twink wants as well. I've got about a total of 100g amongst all of my characters.

The thing about 'teh twinkage' is that it is generally considered an 'all or nothing' project.
To be honest, 100g won't really help you enough to make a difference. Most serious twinkers spend 10 times that getting all the gear and enchants together. As an example, you'll almost certainly want Spellthread for the trousers. That alone will set you back well over 100g, unless you have a VERY kind guildie who is feeling generous.
If your other mage also has tailoring, you might be able to make something and then enchant it. Can't remember of the top of my head what is available at that level.

So, you want a budget twink? Well it is doable, but the first thing you need to understand is your role as a mage at 19.
At 19, you will never be a huge damage dealer as a mage, no matter how much you spend. Even if you got the best enchants and gear, a budget rogue would out dps you without much effort. For this reason I have to strongly advise against fire (or arcane) talents. To be effective you need to use the frost tree. Your snares are what make you viable in the 19 bracket.
The talents you want are 5/5 Improved Frostbolt, 2/3 Frostbite and 2/3 Permafrost. the last point you can use to max out either Frostbite or Permafrost.
As for your gear question, there is only one stat that means anything to a mage, and that is stamina. You want to shoot for 1000hp minimum if you can. You can get most of that on a budget, as most stamina enchants are not very expensive. 100hp to chest can be had for a song, as can 9 STA to bracers, among others. The only exception to this rule is your boots. You can put stamina on them but as soon as you can afford it, get the runspeed enchant.
You should try to get the fishing boots and hat from STV. You get them during the fishing contest on sundays from 2-4pm server time. Be warned that it is very difficult to do on a 19 without help, especially if you are on a pvp server, but you end up with the highest possible stamina by far in both slots.

What do you mean by "brought your mage in at 18, 33 now"?

Just make sure you want to invest the money for a short time, because Blizz is killing twinks after the expac, they may change it this tuesday in the patch >.<

I thought they weren't going to award xp for BGs/honor?

A blue made a post about it a few days ago, stating they may put into affect exp gain during bgs, but, they werent releasing anything as fact yet.
With all the "i hate twinks" qqs all over the forums I'll be surprised if they don't kill twinks, or give them their own bgs.

Link please. (Not saying I don't believe you. I'm just curious as to what was specifically said.)

I haven't heard about this but it sounds like a great idea. PVP is all I really want to do and this would allow me to do it 100% of the time without doing the same stupid quests or doing the same stupid instances.
I don't hate twinks but I don't like them either. to bliz if they do it

IIRC, you used to be able to turn in marks for XP. If they want to award XP for BGs I think this would be the best way to go. It give you the option of lvling via PvP, but doesn't force you to do so.

yada yada yada.........
a 19 twink is no different to a newly turned 70 rocking up to a BG and Facing full Brutal geared arena mad 70s...
BGs will never ever be even, if you put time and money into any lvl BG you will be better and stronger than the average wow player passing thru.
Twinking is a major part of a lot of players game time, if you dont have the time to be a hard core raider, then twinking and doing quick BGs is about your only other option.
Blizz will lose a lot of accounts if they ban twinking by giving compulsory XP.

The blue post he is talking about is one where it was posted that XP will not be forced in the patch or in the xpac. The blue then added a line at the end saying that he wouldn't say 'it will never happen' but there are no current plans for it.
Basically blizz walking the fine line so as not to upset the anti-twinks too much by just saying it will never happen.

If you look through old posts, this subject comes up before virtually every major patch. So far, it's always been rumour and counter-rumour, nothing more.
I don't see Blizz shafting twinks, as they have too much to lose if they do.

No, the first time you turn in 1 of each mark you get money and XP, but only the first time.

Think Superspam may have been talking about the 'old' honour system, where you turned in badges for XP and Rep with the appropriate faction.

His quote is
We're also planning on improving some Battleground and PvP features in general. For example, we want to give you the ability to queue for Battlegrounds from anywhere in the world. We're also going to explore EXP gain through the PvP system as well as low level itemization to support that.
Please don't take this post as a promise. This won't be an overnight process. Not all of these things are set in stone and guaranteed to happen. It would take us a while to shift in this direction. But these are some of the current thoughts on the development team. I think it's important for you guys to know some of our thought process in regards to PvP.
So no, it's not a rumor, they are just trying to see how to make it all work. He said "planning" so it is in the planning process.

I was thinking pre-BC. I could've sworn you could turn in 3 marks as a repeatable quest that granted XP.

Hmm this has gone from about my twink to a discussion on the future of twinking, lol.
All Blizzard would have to do to "combat" twinking is set up two different kinds of BG: one with regular honor rewards and one with better rewards. Obviously the twinks would go for the better BG, while the casual players would stay in the reg. Sounds win-win to me.
MMORPGs should reward hard work. What the hell kind of game wouldn't allow the "maximization" of a toon's potential? Makes no sense to me.
Anyway thanks for the responses there were about the topic, lol. The frost mage sounds like a good idea, since half of the time i was just using frost spells and polymorph.
I suppose this means I need to get ahold of an Antipodean Rod... >.> it is expensive, but I expect worth it. It was kind of nice being able to just farm up a Pulsating Hydra Heart.

I'm guessing my gear update should be as follows:
head: green tinted goggle (http://www.wowwiki.com/Green_Tinted_Goggles) (i'm not gonna be able to win the fishing contest anytime soon)
neck: thick bronze necklace (http://www.wowwiki.com/Thick_Bronze_Necklace)
shoulder: talbar mantle (http://www.wowwiki.com/Talbar_Mantle)
chest: tree bark jacket (http://www.wowwiki.com/Tree_Bark_Jacket) (my 36 fire mage can solo wc, do u think i can solo bfd to farm this up?)
wrist: crystalline cuffs (http://www.wowwiki.com/Crystalline_Cuffs)
main hand: dawnblade (http://www.wowwiki.com/Dawnblade) (was liking the stamina boost from this)
off-hand: antipodean rod (http://www.wowwiki.com/Antipodean_Rod) (if i can't get ahold of one, what's a good replacement?)
hands: gold-flecked gloves (http://www.wowwiki.com/Gold-flecked_Gloves)
legs: I don't seem to have a clear answer here since Darkweave Breeches (http://www.wowwiki.com/Darkweave_Breeches) is so darn expensive, I guess I'll just keep an eye out on the AH for "of the eagle" stuff
Feet: sanguine sandals (http://www.wowwiki.com/Sanguine_Sandals)
Rings: Blood Ring (http://www.wowwiki.com/Blood_Ring)
Seal of Sylvanas (http://www.wowwiki.com/Seal_of_Sylvanas)
The only enchantment I see myself spending any amount of coin for is the movement speed bonus since I won't have blink, and may have trouble casting frostbolt on a flagrunner, getting into frost nova range, or even just trying to escape from a gank. My main can enchant anything that isn't BoP, and I have a friend who will give my BoPs enchants for free with my mats.
So like I said before, I'm looking for corrections. If you think you detect ignorance, you probably do since I haven't even been playing for two months yet, so feel free to patronize me, revamp my selections, etc.
From the above mentioned items alone, excluding legs, I'm given the following bonuses:
9 spirit
42 stamina
28 intellect
17 damage
3 strength

Why don't you make a 29 twink mage, at least you have Blink and some other nice spells. In the 19s you don't really stand a chance as caster, it's a hunter/rogue only thing - and at 29 you at least can also play AB for variation.

Budget twinks should get their enchants by farming greens w their main, getting them disenchanted and then having an enchanter make them for tips. Otherwise it's just too expensive really.
If you can solo anything try Gnomeregan. The fact that it has a vendor AND a mailbox makes sure you don't have to leave at all. Just do rounds of mobs, sell, mail, exit, reset the instance and repeat. Plus you can get the fabulous hydrocane .
