I see people talking about the locations of places in things using numbers like 51,33 for example. Is this something I need to set up in the interface or are these add ons people are using. Would sure be nice to make direct trips to places and things.

It's usually an addon. I use Fubar which is a toolbar that things can plug into. The location plugin for it is LocationFu. Fubar gives you a thin bar along the top or bottom of your screen. You can add things to it that control other addons.

Th coordinate system isn't complex though and you can kind of intuit a location if you don't have a plugin. The top left is 0,0, bottom right is 100,100. So51,33 would be halfway across horizontally and about a third of the way down. The trick is, that zones aren't rectangular and long ones (STV, Desolace) can make that intuition a bit tricky

Yes, a lot of addons also have a feature that gives you coordinates of where you are, and that can really hep pinpointing down certain mobs or places. A lot of people on helpsites reckon that everybody has such an addon installed, and give the coordinates of where something is rather than a detailed description of turning right after the fifth rock by the side of the road and then looking for a y-shaped tree where you need to go south.

If you want an addon that has nothing but coordinates, then go for diMapCoords. You can download it from Curse (just google "download dimapcoords"), and it puts coordinates on your minimap, coordinates to your world map of both your position and that of the cursor, and lets you configure your minimap like remove the zoom buttons or the border around the zone text. That's it. :)
