View Full Version : How could I best find I guild suited for me
Hi everyone, first post here, hope it's the right forum to ask that :)
basically I can't quite find a right guild to raid on my server, so I was wondering whether you had ideas on how to find one..
basically here my situation:
lvl70 Rogue, became 70 a week ago so mainly blue stuff with one epic from a kare run and a couple of greens. I haven't gotten perfect knowledge and massive experience but hope to convince with motivation and ability to listen and perform what is expected. Would be able to raid 2-3 nights a week; so not hardcore, but still rather motivated.
So yes.. I'd really like to find some guild so still see at least kara before wotlk and maybe even a bit beyond..
I realise though that being rogue; finding a guild is rather difficult.. :S
So far I have been in pickup guilds (if thats the word for it), but the raiding ones which recruit in capitals usually need everything BUT rogues as well as top equip lol..
so yeh, tips on where to search? :)

Look on the official forum for your realm. Check other realms if you're willing to transfer. Most guilds are slowing down waiting for the xpac, and many will face some restructuring come release. So now may not be the best time to try and find one :undecided:

Another suggestion, not necessarily better, is to do what you want to do, and if you find other people doing the same thing, group up with them, and if you get along well, ask about their guild (as in, what they think about it). I do have to agree on the point that a lot of guilds aren't acting like themselves during this pre-expansion lul.

To be perfectly honest, any guild still at the Kara level at this point may not be your best bet going forward into WotLK if you want to do serious raiding.
I'd wait until the expansion to see what guilds survive the leveling drama. Many guilds might also reevaluate their raid schedules come WotLK, so what works for you now might not in a month.
Most servers can put together pug Karas these days, so if you want to see that content, pop yourself in Looking for Group. (As a hint, Monday nights are often the best time to do this. Since it resets the next day, people are a lot less stressed about finding the perfect group and will be less picky about gear requirements.)
As for finding a guild, you first need to outline what you want. Ask yourself the following:
(1) How many nights a week do I want to raid?
(2) What times can I raid?
(3) Do I regularly have things pop up at the last minute that might cause me to miss a raid with little notice or have to leave early?
(4) Do I care more about the social aspect of the guild, or is raiding my main focus?
(5) Have I done everything I can to improve my gear on my own?
- Have I obtained the necessary rep to get any items that will be upgrades and get the best shoulder enchant available?
- Have I gemmed all of my gear with appropriate gems? (Never use white gems, and use at least rare quality gems in epics.)
- Have I enchanted all of my gear? (Use cheaper enchants on blue gear, but still get it enchanted.)
- Have I leveled both of my main professions all the way? Do I have maxed first aid?
Use the first 2 questions as your first cut for guilds. If their raid schedule doesn't work for you, it's not a good fit. Period.
The next 2 questions will give you an idea of what tone you want in a guild. (Basically, how casual they are.) Guilds that have a lot of families will be more tolerant of the stuff in life that comes up, but progression will be a bit more challenging. Go to a guilds website and take a look around. Check out their applications to see what they think is important. If they have forums, read them and get a feel for how the different personalities of the guildies work together. Try to get into pugs with different guilds to get to know them.
Finally, question 5 is an important one. If you have answered no to any of those questions, beware of any guild that takes you. Strong guilds with a good chance of progressing expect members to improve their own characters where they can and want to see that their potential members are motivated and not looking to be carried. Know your class and what upgrades are out there for you. Make sure that if there are any upgrades you can get solo (like rep rewards) you do it.

Emphasis on may, for some definition of serious raiding. WotLK will have a progression path for guilds with a good 10 man core that just can't build the roster for 25-man raiding without bringing along more idiots and drama than it's worth (which isn't saying that idiots and drama are a given in 25-man raiding).
But yes, if you're interested in raiding at 80, don't judge the guild by what it's doing now, or what it says it's going to do after the expansion. Many raiding guilds have stopped raiding due to pre-expansion doldrums. Some are breaking apart, sometimes with little warning. Of the top two raiding guilds on our server, one broke up and the other stopped raiding, so it's not something that's only happening to the less solid raiding guilds.
