Hey

Right its me first char on wow and just got 58 so trekked over the shat to have a squint about and someone mentioned that you need to choose a faction when you get over there.

Whats all that about as i just looked for an inn so i can hearthback but picked the sithilius inn. Nothing was mentioned when i made it my home about you have now chosen this or that.

Also there does not seem to be any quests around where i were, is this because i havnt chosen a faction or somthing.

If anyone can shed some light on what they were on about that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you will have to choose a faction, Aldor or Scryers. If you're interested in the respective faction rewards, look them up on WoWWiki, there's a nice comparison. You have to complete a short quest to choose a faction; before you do that, you can bind your hearthstone to either inn.
And yes, the Aldor/Scryer quests will only show up after you have chosen a faction; other quests should be available beforehand (if you're high enough level, of course). It is possible to change faction, but it requires a long grind. However, I wouldn't worry about it too much; with WotLK coming out soon, the faction rewards will probably be obsolete in a couple of months.

All they mentioned was you gotta pick a faction to enable you to stay at the inn.

You can stay at either inn before you actually pick a side.

That is not entirely true. My bloodelf was locked into one because of his faction as a bloodelf.

==============

The problem is that you are 58 and in shat. The first zone you should be traveling to at that level is thrallmar. This is the first zone for the outlands and have all your beginner quests. There is an inn for both factions and you will be able to level up past 60 quite easily.

Shat is great if you wish to travel back to the old world easily but for outland start the thrall and as you open more flight paths and move to different zones then move your hearth to shat.

Also, I don't think the quest to choose either Aldor or Scryer is available until AFTER 60. Maybe like 62 or 63.

If this is your first time going to out land then your should really go through the portal. I am drawing a complete blank as to witch zone it is in.

By going through the portal it puts you at the very beginning and gives you the starter quests that send you to your factions inn and gets your quest chains started.

Having to travel from shat to thrall on foot without an epic mount at level 58 will be kinda tough. It will save you the headache and also give you a great experience.

I'd recommend going through the portal as well (it's in the Badlands). When you do, you'll pick up the "Hey new recruit, fly to Thrallmar (Horde)/Honor Hold (Alliance) for further instruction" quest that will get you started.

After I started playing again everyone I knew was already 70. I was invited into a guild with my old buds and there was a "DO NOT PORT DAK TO SHAT!" on my character notes. I was not allowed anywhere near shat until I had my first character at 58 and I went through the portal.

It used to bother me but I realized my friends just wanted to give me a taste of what they went through when the portal first opened. It was great!

You do not need to choose a faction. You CAN and it gets you access to some gear, recipes, and other rewards but those are mostly a waste of time with Wrath out in a few weeks. Unless you really want to do the quests for one of the factions you can skip picking one entirely (and most of the quests are basically the same). But you'll not find yourself blocked from leveling if you just don't choose a faction.

As someone notes above BEs are slightly aligned with Scryers and Draenei with Aldor because of their race so they can only stay at one of the 2 inns in Shatt. Other races can stay at either inn until they align.

Until you decide, setting your hearth at the Scryers inn has the advantage that you can jump off their tier without dying. Heck, some people have actually chosen Scyers for that reason alone.

I'm pretty sure it's lvl 60, I seem to remember picking at the same time I went to Shatt to pick up teleport to Shatt.

I'll confess to being someone who's most recent 70s all flew to the dark portal (from Shatt) and went through it to pick up that quest chain, but yes, my early toons all did it the proper way.

Agreed with this VERY STRONGLY. My main guild used to have a rule, no "run-throughs" on a player's first trip into any instance. If it was an alt, we didn't mind, but the instances were much more interesting and fun if you were working for it rather than following the 60/70 and looting. We had to give up that rule recently because most of the people in the guild have been playing long enough that our low characters are coming up on lvl 60, if not 70. My only toons below 65 are my bank toon and toons that I only play with specific people that don't play much anymore, and I don't have room on my main server for creating new toons. And yes, between myself and any one of a few guildies, we could probably field a proper 10-man raiding roster, were it not for the fact that most of us only have single accounts.

Thanks for all the comments, all taken in.

Yeah i know i should of gone the proper way but guildies said dont do that it will take to long.

Oh well, ran to Thallmore last night and wandered to the town north and done loads of quests up there and back to the town south, and my god its fun and well good xp.

Wasnt to hard getting there just a few nervy bits on the way through but got there without any casualties.

3 bars to 60 anyway, would of got there if there wasnt massive lag spikes all the time.

Anyway cheers all

Yeah was really getting on my nerves as i was running round AOEing groups of buzzards and then up to the castle, then after one or 2 blasts it would be like 3k ping :ponder:.

Then wait 5-10 mins and it would go back to 80ish

Got fed up and logged off, Just hope its back to normal tongiht.

I'd recommend going through the portal as well (it's in the Badlands)Actualy the portal is in the blasted lands. So if he's horde he should go Stonard in the swamp of sorrows. And from there go to the blasted lands.
