Let's see who can get the closest to the actual Electoral Vote.
One simple rule for this thread. No political discussions. Just say what you think the spread will be. You can put more than one if you want, but try to keep it simple.
Here is my picks.
Absolute minimum - 291 Obama, 247 McCain.
Best guess - 311 Obama, 267 McCain.
Again remember, no politics, just your best guess.

Obama 305
McCain 273
McCain loses home state and Alaska is surprisingly close, Ohio gets it wrong

Ummm..Watcher your numbers are off. You have them both winning, lol.
Only 538 Electoral Votes available, if Obama gets 305, then McCain would get 233.

311+267=578

Lol, good pick, I added 20 to both, instead of adding 20 to Obama and subtracting 20 from McCain.
So my best bet is 311 Obama, 227 McCain.

Guess thats what I guess for basing my total college votes on the post above :P
I basically think a ratio of 55:45, the always right state getting it wrong for only the second time in a century.
Edit:
And Legal cases somewhere or other, since US elections seem always decided in court rather than in the booth.

Dissapointed in the exit polls im seeing, I hoped this wouldnt come down to race but it appears to have, McCain has taken 60% of white vote and Obama 40%, but Obama has taken 97% of the black vote to McCains 3%.

Obama is beating Kerry in almost every red county.
McCain is doing worse than bush in almost every red county.

McCain just lost. With Ohio, plus California, Oregon, Washington, and Iowa, all virtually 100% for Obama, he now has 274. Success is no longer possible for McCain. Congrats to him for a hard fought campaign.

um... Most US elections never see a recount much less a court case. Take your bias, fold it into tiny corners and...

Happy McCain loses, sad Obama wins, and reaffirmed in the belief that people are stupid. At least this way, as I said before, maybe the republicans will move back to conservative principles.

Don't forget Watcher, that Obama could not have won with 100% Black voters and 0% white voters. His appeal is broader than strict racial lines. Can you actually fault Black voters for wanted to vote for somebody of their same ethnic heritage (more or less he is multi-ethnic afterall) for the first time in history? I know of several black conservatives who were emotionally torn between their desire to see a conservative in office and the historic opportunity to vote for a black man.
Gratz to Obama for dinging Prez! Now you can go grind honor for some epix! (almost said welfare epics but jschild asked nicely to keep politics out  )

No, Obama won by appealing to pretty much every single demographic short of White Evangelicals (wow, I actually spelled that right!). Even ones that he did not win, he was very competitive with.
Now, lets see how much our newly elected politicians actually work to keep their word.

BTW, these sort of high level stats never really tell us anything. You need to look at segments sliced by econoomic status, education, gender and geography. For example (and this is MADE UP since I've not looked at any analyses) it's possible McCain had an 80/20 advantage among whites in the South, but 50/50 or even a minority of whites among northeastern and western states. It's far more complex than to say 'whites voted for McCain' esp when you look at the electoral map. The Republicans won the South... which tends to be less economically successful, less educated and more socially conservative.

Unless that quote is from right after the RNC it isn't all that surprising . He's had a comfortable lead for a long time. I just kept hoping the pollsters were wrong since this has been the year for incorrect polls. (super tuesday anyone?)
But enjoy your dance.
The election is over, it's time to throw our support behind the new commander in chief. Criticize where appropriate, but respect the office and the position..... he has a tough road ahead of him.
