sup.

not getting it yet for reasons I don't want to bother with. but in truth, if I was really excited about northrend I would go ahead and get it.

What are you guys doing with your time? I'm not even working on dailies, I've been doing a few, but I'm still running around trying to finish my quests.

I'm still trying to confirm whether the expansion includes a month of gametime with it. I'm not forking out nz$80 for it if I then have to pay another $30 to reactivate my account for a month of game time.

It doesn't come with a free month, at least mine didn't (UK)

Well, that rules that out. I'm not paying $110 just for an expansion pack.

not gotten it yet, but plan to "at some stage". I only have 2 chars who could go to Northrend and I'm not overly bothered about a death knight, as it looks like everyone and their granny has one.

As previously mentioned, it's quite a lot to pay for an expansion, especially when you pay a monthly fee as well. I know that this is a much bigger expansion that e.g. Sunwell, but whenever you see comparisons of Guild Wars and WoW, they always point out that in GW, you have to buy expansions to keep up with your friends. This is usually put with a negative slant. Seems like this is also the case with WoW as well.

My plan is to wait until the price comes down from 35 Euros to something more sensible and then get it. At the moment, I have more than enough to do with my other chars.

where on earth would that cost 110$ ? here in switzerland it costs 60$. That would be almost double the normal price ?

errmmmm i think you are confused.. unless there is that much of a markup over there..

for the cost i paid here plus the conversion rate.. i get around 63 and some change for the expansion...

... and yeah .. i just flew out of that country so i think that exchange rate is about right :-)

The expansion is NZ$80 at ebgames. Then it's NZ$30 for a month gamecard.

Yes, I could probably buy it direct from Blizzard for US$40 and resubscribe with my CC (US$15) but then i'm in the position of paying NZ$98.62 with the current exchange rate.

So saving $12, I then have to go through the process of downloading the game and patching it which with New Zealand ISP plans could take some weeks. The $12 saved isn't worth it.

Just verified on the BNZ's website. US$55 will cost NZ$98.62.

So... what else could 100 dollars buy you in New Zealand?

For example, in Toronto, 100 dollars will get you 5 pitchers of beer, a pack of cigarettes and a taxi ride home.

Red Alert 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, or any other "Complete Title" game on the market.

How many of those games will give you more than a couple of weeks play ? How many will be updated over the coming year ?

And many titles get updated with expansions. Usually around the tune of $40-50 here...

Don't get me wrong... I'd quite like to give WotLK a go, but it's a rather big investment for an addon. Especially when you consider how much this game revolves around its endgame. The 'addon' is almost a required update.

If you want to get involved in end-game, then yes - the expansion is pretty much required (unless you get in a guild then only does pre-TBC/TBC).

If you can't justify to yourself spending the money on this expansion just yet, then maybe wait a while. In a few months the price will almost certainly come down.

For myself, I consider this expansion to have been worth my outlay and then some. The quests are more varied, DK's are fun, some of the visuals are stunning and there's a real sense of an ongoing storyline running through it all. Couple all this with even more of Blizz's humour makes this a stunning expansion as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, I was trying to get a sense of what a typical evening out would cost. What I described was enough for 2 people to have a great time out. Whereas, 45 dollars (What I paid for Wrath) would be what I would pay for an average night at the bar/out with friends for a cheap dinner.

So, if your dollar cost is about double what I'd pay, I was wondering if it was proportional to what I pay for things, or if video games/electronic are just ridiculously expensive in New Zealand. (Sort of like Canada, where as the exchange fluxuates electronics/cars/big ticket items will be the first to raise the prices, whereas basic cost of living expenses will stay about the same)

It mostly comes down to how much you play? I probably play around 45 hours a month. So for me, for this first month, the game is costing me a bit over a dollar a day. Thats nothing and well worth it. After the first month, its 33 cents a day. Thats peanuts to me.

However, if you play less than that, or a lot less, then it hurts you more and more, enspecially for the first month.

I have never understood the $15 a month complaints from people who play often. If you are a very casual player however, then it can easily not be worth it.

I just bought the expansion and 2 months of play time.

I was thinking that if the expansion doesent run on my computer i can always sell it and my charecters. This is the great thing about WOW:it's so hot right now! I got a 70 Pallie, so if the requierments for the game are too much for my PC, i can first sell the gaming set and then the Pallie. I should get somewhere around 100€

jschild

Why would it not run? All of the advanced graphics changes were implemented in the 3.0.2 patch, so should be no surprises. That and WoW isn't demanding at all unlike most other MMO's. A game can be beautiful and still have low requirements, you just need a real art team to work miracles with what they have.

I was debating whether to purchase it myself but having only been playing a week now. But after having paid £25 for The original and the TBC expasion plus another £20 ontop of that for a game card i didn't need right away, i just don't have the money to pay for it. I've decided to get used to the game for now, see if i'm going to stick at it then buy it when i'm closer to being able to be a DK.

If you are not yet level 70, there is absolutely no reason to get the game yet.

The new talent trees, new profession, all were free with the 3.0.2 patch.

The only reason to buy the game is DK (which you must be level 55 or higher to get) or level 70. So until you reach those two milestones, don't worry much about it.

I just spent $80 USD on dinner the other night. went to cheesecake factory and had a salmon rolls for appetizer, had a gigantic salad as the main course, wifey had the chicken marsala, i had an apple martini and she had a mojito and a strawberry lemonade. that's two Wrath games. two.
I spent $5 on bridge toll, about $5 in gas, and $6.50 to park for about two hours.
thats a month's play time.

i think its all a matter of perspective whether this game is worth your money.
as for me, i think the $40 is a great price for a brand new expansion. it covers the leveling from 70-80. the $15/month is a fair deal for gametime after you experience the 70-80 content. like people have said, the game really starts at 80. $15/mo to play up to 50 different characters, level up whatever acheivements, profession, progression, rep, etc, that i want, plus the ability to play with friends from far away (me and my wow buddy is actually 600 miles apart) is a fair asking price.

Yeah I really don't buy the argument.
If you feel the game is too expensive, then you just don't like WoW enough. Because the price to pay is way less than what I pay for a date or going out with the family/friends.

The game costs £17 in the UK. A Day train pass costs £8...a film ticket £8....food another £8.
Going to a football match (90 minutes) costs me £50, which is 5 months of WoW.

WoW offers far more entertainment per £1 spent. Basically the only thing cheaper is me going to the park and playing football with my friends (free). Basically if you have a problem with the price, it's because you don't feel the game is worthwhile, in which case you are better of playing something you do enjoy.

The only problem is if your still at school, and your parents still give you an allowance. Then you probably will struggle to afford it, and at your age you should be enjoying other things anyway.

I don't play at all... That's the catch. I quit about two months ago and had been playing since well before TBC came out. I had absolutely no grudge with the $15/month... It was money well spent as far as value per hour of entertainment went.

The problem i'm faced with now is a much large outlay just to test the waters to see if I want to play again or not.

It's an option at least in the US. You can either download a 10 day trial of Vanilla WoW (if you never had it) or if you have Vanilla WoW you can download a trial of TBC.
