Does anyone know what the effective max level difference is that I can have and still level with a friend? I have a level 70 char and so i decided to make a death knight (like everyone else) however I am also currently leveling up (SLOWLY) with a friend who is 52. I am curious at what point will I be able to reasonably play my death knight with him without either of us crying from lack of experience or bordom.

I dont really understand fully the way experience is calculated when grouped by people with different levels because the character I am currently leveling with him is the same level to avoid the issue.

Thanks for your input.

Your DK starts at 55 and your friend is 52.. I would say 1 or 2 levels difference. Tell your friend to get a move on it. 52-55 could take like a day to get.

Sorry my DK is 58 forgot to mention that, the quests that get you out of the starting zone and allow you to play with your friend put you up to 58.

It's truely not that hard to get to level 58 in a day from level 52. When they get a day off work or whatever, tell them to dedicate it to WoW. 6 hours with rested should gain you at least 4 levels from 52-58, then the next 2 levels should be around 1 1/2 hours each.

Right, I wouldnt have a problem getting up there in a day but the person I am leveling with is taking his sweet time, we have been at those characters for 2 years (you wonder why I am getting sick of the current char I play with him) he levels slowly and painfully so I am just trying to judge how long I have to wait to play a new and interesting character with him.

Suggest to them they give their password to you so you can help them a little? Outland (for the most part) seems quicker simply because there's quests EVERYWHERE. I'm level 65 on my Death Knight and I literally JUST left HFP. I'll be level 68 by the time I hit Nagrand, if not by the time I hit Terokkar... Rested experience is so freaking badass.

Well it depends.

- Is it a new player or someone who already has experience playing wow? It matters a lot, levelling speed is a lot lower 1st time around (although it's almost the most exciting imo); next to that a new player won't have such good gear.
- How much time do you spend on playing relatively? If you play a lot more than he does he'll keep on lingering behind, or you could plan to play your DK only when he's there as well.
- Class: it also depends on what class he plays; we all know locks and hunters level a lot faster than say holy priests or paladins.

Generally I'd say you best stick to 2-3 levels max or it won't be as much fun.

How XP is calculated in a group with a level difference, I'm not excactly sure, but I think it's something with XP is splitted, the one with highest level will get most, the lowest level will get less.

Also heard that XP is trippled in a group up to level 60, might not be a bad idea taking him to an instance or help him quest?

If he levels so slow, stop waiting around for him. Maybe that will give him incentive to level faster.

If you enjoy playing with this person then don't worry so much about it. I have several friends that I play with that are much lower level, but it is fun sometimes to be the hired gun and even though you don't get much/any exp you still get to interact with your friends and helped them along the way. Eventually they will catch up. Hopefully before the cap is raised again.

Hopefully they are understanding as well when you get an invite to an instance and have to leave group to do something for yourself.
