Hello,

Many of you are familiar with the Tribes series of games; they are 10 years old now, but I’m guessing a lot of you are not. Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 were rendered unplayable when Vivendi took down the master servers for these fantastic and uniquely original games in 2008. The remaining Tribes community has done something about that with a patch, and now Tribes 2 is completely free, completely secure and is enjoying something of a rebirth. I am here to spread the message of Tribes game play.

Hailing from 2001, Tribes 2 was a multiplayer only, team play oriented game, that featured massive outdoor and indoor environments, vehicles, and most importantly, jetpacks and a very important movement feature called skiing that allowed the best players to move quickly and effortlessly over large distances. For years now, the game was only played and remembered by the ever dwindling hardcore tribers. The game features many mods, but the most popular is classic, which effectively combines all that is good from Tribes 1 and Tribes 2.

With the release of Tribes Next, within 20 minutes a person can download the game from a torrent, create an account, and be playing in one of the servers. It is now FREE, secure, and renewed. All it needs is more players. If you’ve played in the past, try it again. If you’ve never played, maybe you will discover the magic that I did. The game is unlike any other game you’ve ever played, and has captured my attention for 10 years.

No registering, just download it! http://www.tribesnext.com/downloads/tribes2gsi

After downloading the game itself and applying the Tribes Next patch from the above site, you should download some of the more popular map packs so you can play on any server. http://www.chaingunned.org/downloads/tribes2/maps/TWL-MapPack.vl2 and http://www.chaingunned.org/downloads/tribes2/maps/TWL2-MapPack.vl2

Tribes 2 is a game that allows scripting, and there are plenty of scripts to effect anything from your GUI to some more complex things like automation. Scripting adds a little more complexity than I want to go into in this post, but you all should know it’s out there.

Tribes/2/next is about freedom of game play and if you like what you find after testing it out, join our community on irc.tribalwar.com, our channel is #lastgasp. My name is Fling. Lastly, do not be discouraged by other players, some have been at this for nearly 10 years and they are quite good. Some will have bad attitudes. Look beyond that, and enjoy the new experience of Tribes.

Competitive Tribes 2 CTF at it’s very best. This is one way to play the game.

i deleted your post in the general section. Do not double post.

that sayd, good luck. I myself played some shooters on the UT and then UT 2004 basis, but they are all dead by now. It is sad, but a wise man once said that change is the only constant thing in life.

I just tried to add that crap in about WoW so you wouldn't delete it. I figured you probably would anyway, I read the rules, hehe. Thanks for the reply though. You should check the game out. My post doesn't even begin to touch on the depth of tribes, nor it's complexity. It really isn't like other first person shooters.

While I am very sorry you've had these issues, I did take a look at wiki to see what you were talking about. What I see is that you're accusing a fantasy/medieval mmorpg that supports solo game play (none of which match the game you're touting) of killing a high tech, futuristic cooperative online fps? Talk about apples and oranges. I play wow for many reasons, the decent lore, ability to solo when i feel like it, the ability to indulge my love of rp (yes, people, i know..i'm on a normal server! Thanks!) if only in my head. I loves my little cow, and my pointy eared duracell bunny of doom. I was actively looking for a game that met my many requirements, and WoW was it. Give me another game that allows me the following: Customizable female characters, especially ones that aren't..sigh... elves.... with a fairly deep backstory and lore that offers a high immersion factor. Flexible questing that will not irrevocably end my game if i cannot complete Quest A. The ability to socialize with other gaming geek/otaku/weirdoes... and I MIGHT look at it.

While I can't speak to your otaku/wierdos comment - I am a geek!!! I suppose I was trolling, my online community wouldn't think so, but I suppose thats relative and unimportant. I was attempting to play off of your passions to engage interest in mine. I guess that IS the defintion of trolling. But to argue your point. Tribes 2 was not killed by WoW. However, MMO's, particuarly EQ did sap our strength tremendously, and every MMO from EQ to WoW has sapped it further. WoW was simply the last one to tap into our highly dedicated play pool.

As for yourself, I'd guess you wouldn't be that interested in Tribes, Starsiege perhaps, but that is a totally different beast. If roll playing is what you're looking for, you won't find that in Tribes. What you might find though, is the pleasurable diversion from your normal online activities. You can join a game of Tribes for 5 minutes, or 5 hours. We typically play 25-30 minute maps. There's no character other than the reputation your name conotates. Tribes Next allows you a secure account so that reputation is your own. I suppose that's roll playing in a sense.

I for example am a leader in Tribes. That's not a roll I enjoy in real life. I look forward to seeing you in the servers. Change after all, is the only constant in life.
