ala patch. i only have to mine a node once to get all the ores and stones i would usually get mining it two, three, or four times prepatch. saves so much time.

see, not all patch changes are bad.

I agree but theres (as expected) lots of QQ about it. Now the ninja's can just swoop in quick and *boom* done. No chance for anyone else (no pun intended).

Mind you, i'm sure you are aware that people /cry about the minutist detail in this game....so whatever.

I have a miner on both factions and never really bother getting upset if I see a fellow miner around. Just move on to the next one :)

I digress, but I agree its a good idea. I think.

they made it just like herbalism. i dont know why people dont QQ about that. geez.

now, i wonder if this decreases the chances of you getting a rare gem or something, since you only get one tap at a node.

also, chests are quicker to open. which is an added bonus when running around the world.

You can never tell who saw the mine first or intended to mine it first, I always felt that ninjaing of a mine was when someone was mining and someone else came along and tried to steal the next ore from it, hence why i never had auto loot on, if someone comes along and starts trying to mine my node i sit there with the loot window open until they leave then i continue mining.

Now I can have auto loot on , hit the node once loot it all as im hitting my mount icon to go to the next node quick as.
If someone else gets the first hit on a node then as far as im concerned its their node. So i cant see how there can be any ninjaing of a node unless someone has to clear mobs first, and someone comes along and starts mining whilst said mob is being dispatched. As a RET pally tho i just repentance said mob mine the node then kill the mob, Most classes should be able to do this in their own way, so node ninjas are extinct as far as i see.

120 Saronite nodes in 35 minutes in Iceccrown now + extra titanium thrown in how COOL :)

the problem happens in between taps, if the ninja can get it first, he'll get the ore. so with everything clear (no adds), the old method of mining meant that i still needed to watch out for ninjas who might want to sneak in a tap between me looting and clicking on the node again... we can both mine the node at the same time, but the one who finishes first gets the ore. the one who comes in second gets a nice error message.

Yes thats what i took as ninjaing, hence i didnt have auot loot on, if someone comes along as your taking you first hit and they try and jump in on the second tap, if you just sit there with the loot window open and dont click the ore to put in your bag they cant start mining. So i would just sit waiting with loot window open not collecting my ore until they get back on their mount.

Now we dont have to worry, autoloot ftw...

took my new DK mining last night. gotta say leveling it up is a lot easier now. my bags fill up so fast! rawr!!

funny thing is, mining takes me 3.2 seconds while herbalism takes me 5 seconds. i think someone's going to make it 5 seconds sometime in the future.

I agree with El on this one, it's delicious! I haven't done a comparative run on Sholozar yet, but as my partner has to work tomorrow, I'm gonna put in some serious mining time and try to get her the money for a fast mount...shouldn't be too hard!

Only time I have a problem is when the mine doesn't show up on my radar til I've flown over it, or when I see 2 nodes and go into a panic trying to decide which to go for first (if they are similar) based on experience of which one is more likely to be on other regular miners routes around the basin, which I may have to fight my way to, whether or not a chicken crossed my path in the last 17 hours whilst I was carrying a lucky rabbit's foot and emoting happily to myself...
And yes, usually by the time I have decided one, if not both are gone ^^ I really do need to act faster!

Anyone know if this has affected the respawn rates of nodes at all? Straight after the patch, I flew my little route in Storm Peaks whilst waiting to quest, and 3 out of the 7 nodes I hit were juicy titanium ones. I'm thinking more luck than anything else though!

Apologies for the double post, can no longer edit...

Well, since my last post, I travelled to the Basin from K3, and returned a total of 197 saronite ores, 8 titanium (3 nodes, 2 consecutive - I did do a drool), a sky sapphire and a handful of green gems.

I've noticed that the price of saronite has dropped a little on my server - from 40g+ per stack to 35g - but nothing too concerning. All in all, not a bad little money spinner in the basin still - providing you can handle the diziness of loops round the outside, loops round the pillars, and loops around River's Heart.

With my hard-earned cash, I'm fitting my flier with a sick bag!

Wow, let me be the first to disagree! I miss actually extracting the ore a little at a time. As someone who enjoys the RP part of the game, faster is not always better (IMHO). Soon the animation will be reduced to one whack-- imagine how fast you will be able to mine then.

Nyte

PS Don't mind me-- I didn't like it when Blizzard speeded up the leveling process either.

There are dirtier methods of ninjaing that are possible. Pull a nearby mob over on your flyer and swoop up. Other player is forced to fight it, the node then becomes easy pickins. A rogue using vanish does about the same trick. Only way to avoid that is being a hunter or warlock, the pet will take aggro and allow you to mine.

Frankly the change is needed to reduce the above, I've seen two other miners go at it right after one pulls off this dirty trick. The chat screen is not good.

*stands nervously and addresses the group*

My name is Revgar, son of Tor'gar, and I am addicted to ores.

It wasn't too bad at first...I remember the days when just half an hour scouring the basin would be enough for me, where each tap of my hammer against the sweet, sweet deposits of saronite was literally music to my ears. And the other music, the whisperings of Yogg'Saron, could easily be ignored.
I could give up any time.
But now, the hours roll by as I circle the basin. Day turns to night, night turns into day again, and still I patrol on the tired wings of my mount, knowing that a titanium node will be lying in wait for me at the base of the lifeblood pillar...knowing that despite the screaming in the muscles of my back and arms, I can give it up at any time.

My name is Revgar, and I am addicted to ores. And now it's so easy to obtain these ores, I fear the words of Yogg'Saron will drown out the music in my heart.

And I fear I am not alone.

Sweet Sarufang's sandals, I flew around that bloody place for over 6 bloody hours over the weekend to save the bloody money to bloody buy bloody shiny things, I never want to see the bloody place again.
And it's dropped the bloody price of bloody saronite loads.
Still made about 6k though, got to love scarlet ruby drops and prices...

Bloody. (Sorry, think I missed that one out somewhere in the last couple of lines of text)

Dont worry about the saronite, I went back to the ye old good lands of EPL and did some thorium mining, yes there are a lack of nodes but most found are rich.
At 80 gold plus a stack, thorium Ore is were the cash is........ Oh and being lvl 80 u almost have to hit a mob for it to aggro so you are completely free to mine every node in this place in piece.

Hm, that isn't a bad idea at all! Will check the thorium prices on my server tomorrow! Actually having to ride - on the ground - may cure me of this curious mining addiction I've developed. I've deliberately not played tonight so that when I'm at work tomorrow, I don't find myself occasionally flicking my glance up to the top right of the screen to make sure I'm not missing any yellow dots...
Like I was at work today ><

Unless I can convince the air traffic controllers of Azeroth to grant me a pilot's licence for the area somehow!

I have found that the ores do not always stack up to 20 to I keep getting stacks of 17, 18, etc that I have to manually top off. It looks like if you have a statck of 18 and you get 3 from a node, you now have a stack of 18 and a stack of 3 rather then a stack of 20 and a stack of 1.

Aside form that, I love this change.

I dont know where you guys are mining, but i have serious problems mining.
Did a pass at Duskwood got 2 ore's. Stranglethorn vale gave me 3 ore's, arathi highlands gave me 2 ore's.
Thats all im getting from a whole pass, i do have gathering and its showing alot of ore's. But when i get to the ore, there is nothing there. I dont see anyone in the area mining. Is gathering working allright? Or am i just being unlucky.?

Are you using the in game node tracker or a mod like Gatherer? Gatherer takes its information from known node spawn points and shows them to you. Those are just places that a node can be, not a guarantee that one is up there at a given time.

Still without someone else mining, that sounds like a very small amount of nodes. I've never really done mining in STV or Duskwood, but it seemed like I'd hit 5-10 nodes on a pass of Arathi.

Is it ninja'n if your going against another faction? PvE style.

example: I land, pull aggro on a couple of mobs... a horde lands > mines the vein and takes off...

I used to work in an actual coal mine when i was younger before i gave it up to become a wizard,i am hoping to transfer my expertise from that into the game i hear Arathi Highlands is plentiful,i think the hard ground there looks good for mining.
