I'm new to this forum so hello everyone, and please be gentle:grin:
My story as a wow player starts back in 2005 (patch 1.4) when I began playing this game.
My first, real, character was a Human Warlock on the european PvE server Hakkar. The first leveling to 60 was dreadfully long (newbie skill) but it was incredibly fun and rewarding; plus I had the honor of joining a guild that will mark me forever, Arisen, great times indeed.
However, the server though labelled "English speaking" was far from it (and looking at the official forums still is), not that I have anything against people who can't speak/write in one of the "server languages", but these guys* didn't even try to be understood (there were very few exceptions).
This, plus the fact that I grew fonder of PvP by the day, led me to beleave that a change of scenery was in order.
And so I became a Hordie never to embrace the Alliance Ever Again.
This time I wanted the best of both worlds so I rolled an undead warlock (by know you must have guessed it's my favourite class) on the european RP-PvP server Scarshield Legion.
Everything was great there, I finally had a server community with which I could speak, I had been doing great in PvP fights ( I had big problems with PvP while I was a newbie), leveling was cake but ... I missed Arisen and their easy-going attitude.
So I tried to balance it out with role-playing, but I had been greatly mislead by the RP part of this game(won't get into it here).
I stopped playing a month or so before BC came out...but I still read the webcomics, I still watched WoW movies, I still checked talent trees and, above all, I still read the official forums.
This led me to beleave that I wasn't really done with WoW so I bought The Burning Crusade and played in Hellfire for a while.
But I was wrong, the game felt empty and I knew it was me (kinda sounds like a cheesy sentence from an american sitcom, not intended), I was unable to keep playing with that feeling of voidness, so a week after I bought BC I gave up WoW (never even leveled that character past 60 :lipsrsealed: ).
Two long years have passed since that day, and many many things happend meanwhile. During these years I made a close friend who recentlly told me that he would like to play WoW...
I can't really describe the emotions I felt when hearing those words, honestly.
I've been drugged by those words, and since then something built up inside of me... a profound infant joy, if you will.
I started watching WoW movies again, and reading the forums and whatnot...
I told him I would start from scratch with him on a PvP server, I'm still going to have to investigate a few of those later on just to be sure it is the "right server" (if there is such a thing).
We went over some of the classes together and, though this is still hypothetical, 2 classes captured his attention the Mage and the Rogue.
Therefore I downloaded a couple of PvP movies to show him these
classes' gameplay style and abilities. He hasn't seen them yet (I'm still waiting for him to show up) but I think he's going to enjoy them.
As a Warlock (yeap, I'm not switching) I kinda felt the need to download some Shadow priest movies, just to see if I could hmmm... "per-suade-him".
This is the end of my story and the beginning of my questions:smiley:
From what I recall ,as a leveling duo, Rogue/Warlock and Mage/Warlock
don't really work due to the opposite nature of their DPS (Instant VS Over time)
I know I could play destruction and have the mage regen my mana but from what I recall destruction was a useless tree outside of PvP.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks in advance for spending your time reading my story.
*I'm not going to turn this into a possible "hate thread" by throwing their nationality out, besides everyone on Hakkar knows who "they" are.

warlock and rogue do NOT go well together, unless you're in an instance.
a rogue is more the one-on-one type player (sap one mob, disable the first one, then go back to the sapped mob, etc). with the warlock, however, there's two things that you can probably do to help him. do not use fear. and use your voidwalker to tank. then he can dps some and you can dps some with your voidwalker tanking. otherwise, the playstyle doesnt really match. i remember playing with my rogue friend and she totally hates my playstyle. while i have everyone feared and taking damage, she needs to chase them down to apply any kind of damage. with a voidwalker, you can put all the mobs in one spot and have the rogue dps them down.
the other thing you might also consider is buffs or debuffs. the warlock has elemtal debuffs. now this is great for you, but for mr rogue, none of his hits will take any advantage of, say, Curse of Elements. maybe you should show him some pally videos.

I'm sorry, but that post was filled with a few items of obvious dislike and just flat out ridiculous things... Simply saying "Oh, didn't mean it that way btw." doesn't help. That, along with bashing another nation for no reason which makes no sense anyway, but yes, go ahead and cover it with more "Didn't mean it like that just fyi"...
No, Warlock and a Rogue do not go together.

The realm he mentions is Hakkar which is termed as an "English" speaking realm but the majority of the population are Italians, most of which do not speak English or are not even willing to do so. A long time ago I rolled a character there and the abuse you get from them if you are not "ITA!!!" was appalling tbh. Woe betide anyone speaking English there. Needless to say that character stills remains unplayed after getting as far as some terrible Deadmines runs!
This is the problem here on the EU realms. We have English, German, French, Spanish and more recently Russian speaking realms. Most of Europe can get by in one of those, but there are certain countries who will take over a realm regardless of it's language and spam trade/general in their own language. Almost every day there is a new post somewhere along the lines of "Give us Dutch/Bulgarian/Polish/etc, etc realms NOW!!" threads.
You can probably imagine the hostility this creates with the other players who conform to the specified realm language.
I'm not sure if you have the same issues on the US realms?
And no Warlock and Rogue is not a pairing I would go with.

I've played on a few different US realm servers. There was a large pocket of Koreans on one of the servers for awhile, but they all left when the Oceanic realms became available. Other than that, I have not run into any large numbers of people speaking a language other than English -- at least not in WoW.
When I played EQ, I was on a server for awhile where there were a VERY large number of French Canadians, so you'd run into that. But no one ever got hostile about me speaking English, IIRC.
And no Warlock and Rogue is not a pairing I would go with.
In TBC, my main was a warlock. In WOTLK, my main is a rogue. Knowing both classes, there is nothing really that compliments the other. The warlock pet isn't enough to keep the aggro off the rogue, which might be the only real benefit, and they kill too fast for the dots to run their course. It could sort of work if you went with a destruction lock, but frankly in that case, just go with a mage.
Back in TBC, we used to duo my husband's rogue with my paladin, and THAT worked great. Back in that day, paladins were molasses-slow killers but largely indestructible, so a rogue really sped up the killing speed. The paladin could hold aggro better and tank the mob while the rogue tore it to shreds.

It appears you didn't quite get what I was trying to say.
I haven't bashed any nation in my post at all, neither do I feel the need to cover anything, mate.
I was simply, and briefly explaining why I left the server and honestly I don't know why did you get so worked up about it. When people don't invite you for anything unless you understand their particular language, which in this case I do by the way, it makes it kinda hard to have fun, that's all.
-----------------Back to the Topic--------------------
He saw the Mage and Rogue videos I had mentioned before and was overall excited by both classes. However when he read this thread he asked me to show him some Shadow priest videos so let's wait and see.
I also considered building a destruction warlock coupled with his mage, we would be a direct damage duo plus we would be sharing at least one magic school.
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for your time and help.

a destro lock and a fire mage? sounds like an awesome combo.
do realize that if you do run any instance, you will find more dps out there to compete with spots than anything, well, other than DK's.
pros:
mages have CC, warlock has CC. both classes have their limitations though.
mana buff, dampen magic, shadow resistance, underwater breathing, soulstones, healthstones, food and water, portals... pretty good.
cons:
squishy unless you're a draintanking lock. but squishiness when things die after two hits? not a bad thing.
downtime. yes you drink a lot. for locks, learn to bandage and lifetap to recover mana. faster than drinking.
instance loot will be fought over. quest rewards will be the same. you'll both be dressed in the same things. yea... twins.
thats all i can think of. good luck with whatever you guys choose!

"But I was wrong, the game felt empty and I knew it was me (kinda sounds like a cheesy sentence from an american sitcom, not intended)"
That alone was enough to make the post filled with ignorance for me. That, along with the whole "Poor me, can't handle this" thing when there's y'know... Tons of other realms, not to mention the fact that you could always check something before you go on to a realm.

Oh, your ignorance on the issue is more blinding. But I guess you are just arguing for the sake of it? Read what I said regarding the realm and the situation here in Europe. Who the hell when first buying the game does a load of research into the specified language realms and whether they are in fact Italian/Polish majority speakers on them?? Here in EU as I said we have 5 different language tabs to choose from. So the OP is English speaking and chooses one.
Come back with all the "PCT/free migrate" all you want, but please don't be an ignorant fool Maz. Just please don't talk crap of which you have no clue.
As Ren descibed above, it seems you US realm guys have it a lot easier regarding the language issue. Here we don't. We have a plethora of different languages on all realms. I would have thought you may have a lot of French Canadians and some Hispanic language speakers? That is where I might be ignorant myself as I do not know whether you do.

After 10 levels you should easily be able to notice "Hey... Half of these people don't speak English."
It's great how I simply say that an item has ignorance in it (Which it did, "Oh, don't mean to sound American" IMO is fairly ignorant, or at least has a hint of National-racism) yet I get bashed with "ignorant fool" etc =P.

I'm sorry Mazhulsage, while I've noticed you are very quick to jump on any perceived anti-Americanism, which I find admirable, it's ludicrous to suggest that calling American sitcoms cheesy is racist.
Edit: Most American sitcoms ARE cheesy, in that they nearly always end with a moral. British sitcoms are cruel, and rely on torturing the main character (in a slapstick way). I don't know any French sitcoms, but I imagine they involve a lot of staring out windows and smoking.
None of this is racist.

I really loved my Guild and I had made some friends there already, plus the situation only became unbearable around level 50.
A lot of people don't speak english in European English servers, most of them try and we love them for that.

I'm not going to apologise for something I'm not responsible, offending your squeamish pride. Any american that understands the meaning of the word illiteracy wouldn't be offended.
There is no such thing as "National-racism" (note that I use quotation marks to make actual quotations) its called Xenophobia, but I'm sure you know that since its your language.

I try to keep things lower in big words when it comes to forums, as I don't want there to be a "WTF, LIK U NO WUT THAT MEENS" or "ur just tryeeng to sound smart! gj google!" starter... I don't feel that starting a thread with a start of any rudeness is a great way to make people speak to you politely or anything. I'm sure you can find somewhere on the internet (Probably plenty of places) to bash anyone you want, I'm simply not going to be "Just another American" who allows others to spit in our face and say "Thank you sir, may I please have another?". I was raised to actually stand up for myself and others, if you'd like to talk crap about America freely, please, go to google and find a forum where you can happily do that all day... Then bring your true problems here about WoW without the hatred.

Incoherent nonsense. My eyes are bleeding after attempting to read that drivel.
"Spit in our face"? Eh what?
"True problems about WoW"? Eh what? Learn to read the previous posts please!! You clearly have not as you are picking on one particular thing. As I see you doing in another thread here. Just....no I can't be bothered with you anymore.
Edit: I have just re-read the thread and tbh Maz I think you owe the OP an apology? You are the rude one here, not the OP. Oh and thanks for making us look like the official forums. Good going.
