Hey I was thinking of starting playing WoW, but I don't know anything about it really. I played Everquest a long time ago, and haven't played any MMORPG in about 7 years.

I guess my big question is, would it be worth it to play? I work long hours so my play would be restricted to maybe only a few hours a few nights a week, and probably none on the weekends. Does anyone else have this sort of schedule & still find it a worthwhile game for a monthly fee?

My playing time is somewhat limited; 2 or 3 nights during the week and rarely on weekends. But I still find time to enjoy it. Give the 10-day free trial a shot.

I would say that if you could play 15 hours a month in whatever increments you break them up into....that works out to about $1 per hour of entertainment. That would be a fair trade off in my book, but you will have to decide "how" you want to play. If your goal is to do the 25 man raids, then no, you won't be able to put in the time. If you just want to level and play at your own pace, then sure it's worth it.

There are so many different ways to play that you can always find some aspect of WoW to fit your schedule. You just need to decide if that aspect is entertaining for you.

By the way, you can always stop your subscription and then restart it later if you have to stop playing for a while.

My guild has a handful of people that we don't see for weeks or even months at a time (due to work, travel, personal life details or military deployment) but since we are more casual, it's not a big problem for them to show up and play when they can. It's like having relatives come to visit.

It is fun..but be aware that the majority of players is lv 80, so levelling is a very lonely thing atm. Best done with a friend or two....and in the embraces of a guild.

this game is very diverse, for lack of a better word. you will find this game caters to many many different people as there are many, many different things to do in this game. you will never ever "beat" this game. so those who play a lot more than you is never really "ahead" or even necessarily enjoying the game more.

and we're always here if you have any questions so... go for it. its not like you're forced to pay the sub fee if you feel you dont wanna play the game anymore. if you dont like it, you can quit any time.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I downloaded the 10 day free trial and started playing a bit. It's been so long since I've played anything like it, it took me a while to get settled! It looks like a pretty good game so far, but the format is different than EQ used to be so that'll take more adjusting. I'm definitely not going to be any sort of power gamer but I guess it'll take time to work my way up to the levels of everyone else. I might check it out for a month or 2 to see what my real level of play is. Does anyone have a recommendation on what server to play on casually or anything else to start? I guess there's a lot to look at for what kind of character to start too! I don't really know the abilities of any of the classes and how they would compare to EQ.

Thanks again for the advice & I suppose I'll check out the noob forums to get some pointers.

aim for medium population servers. the fact is, full servers are full. obvious. but low pop servers can have problems as well. pvp vs normal servers? thats all up to your preference. just dont complain about being ganked in a pvp server since it happens.

the basic concept of classes are similar across all games. they do have different names for them but its pretty much the same. read up on the different classes and what they do and how they fight. there's always tanking classes, dps classes and healing classes. wow has many hybrid classses too, which helps if you're not too sure of what you wanna do, plus it gives you more versatility if you do decide on one type of play over another.

Get someone to recruit you in the recruit a friend program....you'll level MUCH faster than otherwise.

Expect to be spending a lot of time in early areas, and expect it to take a long time to catch up.

However, I find it fun to play early areas, and they are well populated. I even remember thinking "Woah, too crowded" in a capital city.

So if you don't adhere to the grind mentality of "must be lvl 80", it's a fun game to explore and kill monsters and slowly level up.

If you don't have a lot of time, don't play this game. You'll get sucked in.

In my opinion, basically, it depends on what you want for this game.

I tried to play this game but it seems to be not my type. On the other hand, I will keep learning about it.

At PvP, guys love fighting and they always want to win. Then spend a lot of money or time on it.

Normal is good. I like missions part but frustrated when I can't find the targets.

Get the addon Questhelper and Cartographer. You get a nice big arrow pointing you in the right direction. Like an ingame GPS.

...which takes all the fun (and frustration) out of the game. but if your issue is where the mobs are you have to kill, read the quest dialog. it tells you everything, yes, everything you need to know about the quest, what to kill, and what to do afterwards.

I have the same playing habits and I enjoy the game a lot. Sometimes I only play the game for 20-30 minutes and still feel a sense of accomplishment.
