Is it just me or is there no weather effects in Northend. I thought WOTLK was supposed to mark a return to weather effects, now that the content was taking place back on a planet with an atmosphere again.
Even on the login screen, it shows Icecrown with some great looking snow effects. But when in Icecrown, not a flake of snow.
Was there a reason why they didn't include any effects? Or have I somehow stuffed up my graphics settings so bad I've locked them out.

No, I don't see them either. And I want blizzards to justify the thousand gold I spent on "cold weather flying". Looks pretty balmy and clear to me.

I see plenty of snow... However... I don't see the point in "Cold Weather Training" in normal areas.

I see snow in several areas, though I must agree that weather effects generally seem more muted in Northrend than they are in the rest of Azeroth.

the real problem is there shouldn't be any 'normal' areas at that latitude and this time of year

I see snow on the ground in many places, but I have yet to see it snowing.

It actually doesn't snow in Northrend. What snow you do see is the result of a the Steamwheedle Cartel's attempt to set up a Ski Resort in the Storm Peaks. They created a gigantic [Goblin Snow Machine] which malfunctioned and exploded covering the surrounding zones with an un-meltable snow like substance.

On a related note you don't need it to be snowing in order for there to be snow. Based on average annual precipitation Antarctica is the world's largest Desert.

Oh yes, and to clairify I can see snow, everywhere, all over the ground. But I never see it falling from the sky like it does in the logon screen. It snowed in Dun Morogh, why not all over northend??

Hum..Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra have pretty icey areas. Dragonblight is all snowy and cold. That about covers the 3 starting areas from 70 to 75 easily. Granted, Sholazar looks warm and cozy mostly, but already Snow peaks is inaccesible without a flyer. Leaves Grizzly Hill (part cold and snowy) and ZD.

I've seen it snowing! I've noticed it in Dragonblight a couple of times, though I think it's pretty rare because when it happened a few people mentioned it in /1. This was pretty early on in the expansion though.

you might want to put it somewhere that doesn't require a login to view it ...

I've seen it raining in Scholazar Basin, but for the rest I can't remember seeing any other weather effects. I really do think it's a shame, because weather effects can really add to the atmosphere of an area - especially when it varies and isn't the same all of the time.

I've changed the gallery permissions so now anon users should be able to see it...

shadows and phasing > weather effects.
about cold weather flying... its a climate issue and not a weather issue. they should have called it Cold Climate Flying, since some folks will go... "ohhhh grass and trees, why we need cold weather flying here??" "cos its ficken cold grass!! look over the hill, do you see an iceberg?"

Thar rain in sholozar basin I think was probably while someone was questing. There is a quest you do with the oracles and you start a storm, so sometimes when flying round the area you might fly thought the storm someone created.
I've seen it snowing a bit in Dragonblight as well. But not consistently, and only in one area, usually around the tower, fly a bit further and its gone again. And yes I've seen it snow in that screen shot of storm peaks, but just in that specific area with the frozen statues.
So clearly weather effects are there in some form, but Blizz obviously didn't want to make it a big part of the Northend experience like old Azeroth. Shame.
