Pffft, what would a Pom know about beer...

I was at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and one kid at a basketball match would yell out "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" and the crowd would yell back "Oi, Oi, Oi". The kid got quite a thrill out of it, so naturally, as litle kids do, he kept doing it. I remember thinking, god this is embarrassing, but like the rest of the crowd, I couldn't resist. After a while most of us gave up and the kid stopped. Looking back it was quite funny.

Just go to a sporting event where Australia is competing and yell it out, at least one Aussie should reply.

Hee hee. Do you agree that VB is rank though? :wink3:
I spent nearly a year in Oz in 2002 & loved it! Typical backpacker, spent most of my time drinking Coolabah & Stanley casks. New is nice though.

I don't drink beer anymore, not since I worked out I am allergic to the stuff. Last I touched VB, I thought it was a weird taste, not to my liking, but meh. There are plenty of other good local and imported stuff. Funny though, VB is one of the most popular here.

Typical backpacker
Typical ENGLISH backpacker. Hehe   Not all tourists drink. some of them take pictures. LOTS of pictures.

I'm going to assume that the reason it doesn't make sense to me has something to do with my location:

I hope im not the only one that cringes every time they hear this chant.

Depressingly it seems to be the best we can come up with v0v.

EVERY time? I think there are times it's ok, such as when cheering on an Aussie team.

Nope that's generally the worst time. When the most creative thing your country comes up with is your countries slang name repeated a few times, its probably time to just wave or something.

Sure, sporting events arent the place to wax intellectual, but something a little more inventive wouldn't go astray.

It's even less inventive considering it's a derivation of a really old UK slang chant and imported along with its immigrants :D

I'm from Cornwall but living up the road in Devon until next week when I return to Gods country

A lot of Cornish Tin Miners emigrated to Australia and America. In fact my friend did a search for his ancestors recently and his surname is unique to Cornwall, Australia and America. He only found his direct family in Cornwall.

Oggy is indeed a name for our local delicay of Pasty as linked in Clav's link. I have also been to Exeter chiefs rugby matches and they do indeed chant that too.
