View Full Version : My problem with Sacred 2

I liked the original Sacred and after playing the demo of Sacred 2 somewhat, I decided that I liked what I saw and bought the game. I still like the game. It's fast-paced, there's certainly some form of "item fever", ... Basically a nice hack-and-slash experience.

However... NPC companions drive me up the wall! They run around like headless chickens aggroing every single mob in the entire area. Mobs seem to ignore me and run straight for the companion. Fighting companions get themselves killed in like 5 seconds, and non-fighting companions run away when they are attacked, preferably straight ahead into more mobs, rather than moving back behind where it is safer. The most frappant example is when I entered a dungeon with a non-fighting NPC. She was attacked and started running around and then opened the door leading to the frigging next room, where she continued to run around and squeal like a little girl.

And there we are thinking escort quests in WoW are bad... I mean, a simple solution would be to avoid the escort quest entirely, but in Sacred 2 that is just not possible in some cases. Sometimes you get an "accept/decline" dialogue, but more often than not you automatically accept a quest when clicking on an NPC with a quest icon. So I just automatically accepted a quest where I have to escort this NPC to the friggin' end of the map. You can't abandon quests and when they fail, you can't redo them. Moreover, failing quests can have consequences in the game, so just having the guy killed and get on with the rest is an awkward solution.

I am seriously thinking about quitting the game just because of that.

Sorry, I basically just wanted to rant. Any shared experiences with that game? :)

Played Scared (1) a bit, but found that the character differences weren't too great. Could get through the whole thing by using bash on any character class. Sure, you could try and diversify, but in the end, it's easier to just hammer them.

The thing that really annoyed me was that the respawns were silly. I would fight my way up a long path to enter a dungeon, enter the dungeon and realise that I had forgotten something and about 2 seconds later exit. I then had to fight all the way back down the path, because everything had respawned.

I found this to be frustrating, as I wanted to progress with the story, but was getting unnecessarily hindered at virtually every stage

As for Sacred 2, I had read too many bad reviews about performance and bugs to even want to try it.
