Hey, I'm brand new to WoW. I'm currently on the 10-day Trial Version but I plan on buying the real thing soon.
Anyways, I have a question. I was looking around the site and saw that there are UI mods for this game. Are these legal? and are these safe to use? Also, does Blizzard support these? I'm just curious.
If anyone has anymore tips or suggestions about the game, feel free to let me know. They're greatly appreciated. Thanks!
See you around!

1. UI mods are legal. blizzard will not support these, however. if you have problems with them, you will get no help from blizzard. you will, however, have a load of people who make/support the mod itself and will get support from them. to be clear, you can use UI mods. if you have issues with your UI mods though, blizzard will not help you fix it.
2. my only other tip or suggestion is... read the forums. read the stickies. read the guildes. you'll do a lot better than someone who doesnt.

Thanks. Also, I am interested in the Herbalism profession. Like, how do I 'start' this profession? (Sorry, lol I'm completely new)

in every major city, and in certain smaller cities and towns, you'll find Herbalism Trainers. they will sell you the skill to level up. once you leveled up to the next tier, they can train you again.
skills 1-300 can be trained in Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms (four tiers).
skills 300-375 can be trained in Outland.
skills 375-400 can be trained in Northrend.

In any major city, ask a guard for a profession trainer, and you'll see a sublist of profession trainers that are available. Go to the trainer you want and talk with that trainer....and you will then have that profession.

Annnd... After you ask the guard for directions, a small little gold arrow will appear on your mini map telling you where to go to find the trainer (or whatever else you ask the guard direction to)

and when you get close to the trainer so that the trainer's location is on your minimap, a red flag will appear at the trainer's position. it will disappear from your minimap when you get close enough to the trainer.

Professions are divided into Primary and Secondary Professions.
For the Primary Professions, you are limited to learning two per character. So if you have Herbalism (which is a primary) you have room to learn one more.
The other Primary Professions are:
Skinning
Mining
Leather Working
Enchanting
Tailoring
Engineering
Inscripting(inscriptions)
Alchemy
Blacksmithing
Herbalism
Jewel Cutting/Crafting
If you have Herbalism, Alchemy or Inscripting go well with it.
Secondaries are Cooking, Fishing and First Aid.
Of the secondaries, you can learn all three on one character.

If you choose to take another gathering profession instead of Alchemy or Inscription to make money, go for Skinning, as you can't track Herbs and Mining ores at the minimap at the same time. Also, if you gor for Herbalism and Inscription/alchemy, don't get too eager to train and spend all your money, you'll need the money for mounts and other things all the way up to 80, and their not cheap either.

Actually, with Gatherer you can track both Mining and Herbalism nodes at the same time. You won't see the yellow dots from the standard tracking interface, but if you are running Gatherer and have a decent database compiled or have the complete Gatherer database uploaded, you can see where all the game nodes are and track (set Gatherer to show certain nodes) on screen. All nodes means anything gatherable in game, Mining, Herbs, Treasure Chests, Food Crates, Barrels, etc.
If you set it to show both mining and herb nodes you can go after both at the same time.

sure... if you want to spam that as you move through a zone. But if you're standing in one place you can only see the nodes for one of those at a time... so you can spam the button, check both... move on, spam the button....
do either mining or herbing and skinning. No issues with tracking and, while not quite as lucrative as doing both mining and herbing would be 1) You'll actually level and 2) it will be FAR less annoying.

have you ever tried this?
couple it with gatherer and you're golden. this is best when you're farming, and not ideal when you're trying to level up, though you can.
you spam it when you come across nodes. again, gatherer ftw. actually i dont even spam it. i run by nodes, press button. run futher to where other nodes could be, and if there are nodes in-between, i press it once. no spamming involved. add it to a hotkey and you can forget about ever clicking it.

bear in mind that the OP is new, and getting him too involved with addons and macros will just confuse the guy. and lets not forget that in the lower levels, the chances are he's not going to want to farm for gold, but actually level up his character. losing out on a few silver pieces shouldn't worry him too much.
basically all the advice has been covered, just read the forums, join a nice social guild, read any guides you can find (be careful of viruses and spywear/key loggers when browsing for guides, and don't buy any guides since they might be scams). most important of all, enjoy the game. have fun and welcome to WoW

yea actually bringing things back into perspective, my advice would be best used for someone who is higher leveled and is farming these things, or leveling them up. but for others who read this thread who are familiar with addons and such, they might come away with some good ideas.

Thanks so much for all of the great advice everyone. My friend and I (we tried the game together) will keep both of these in mind. Good news, we both purchased the Battle Chest and we're both upgrading to it right now.

Cyber, your site, although chockfull of levelling guide ads seems safe enough. It however seems of pretty low quality. I'd recommend anyone going to read
1. the offical wow site (to get a general description)
2. the stickies here (for a guide once you know the difference between a mage and a warlock)
3. wowwiki.com (for delving deeper)
in that order.

one more piece of advice check out refer a friend. If one of you starts and recruits the other you get 3 times normal xp when you run together. the recruiting accout gets a mount but the expirience bonus is what counts.
