Ok when i bought BC all i had to do was go the WoW site and upgrade my account. And i could make the Blood Elf.

If i was to buy WOTLK would i just have to upgrade my account like i did to BC?
Or would i have to download alot of patches?

Well, you can upgrade, and then use the features of LK that do not involve new zones.

If you want to go to the new zones, you need to DL the new stuff.

If I recall correctly, once your account is upgraded to a certain expansion the game will demand that you have the full expansion-data installed. Which you'll need to download if you can't borrow someone's WotLK DVD...

I have no idea...

But to be honest, the new features of WotLK are few for new players. I'm waiting to at least have 1 char level 55 before I get WotLK, as it's not worth it otherwise.

You need one char at 55 to make a DK.
You need to be what, 65-68 to survive in Northrend?
Other than that, you have the new profession, that's it.

Howling Fjord is a level 68-72 zone. I know lots of people will come in and say...zomg... I took my <insert character> to the Fjord at <lower level than I just quoted> and I didn't have any problems at all! But yes, except for the dks, the content of wrath is aimed squarely at the 68+ crowd.
