A paladin is a great class for a beginner, if you like to melee and versatility.

agreed.
pallys will let you play a tank, healer, and great dps. Tanks and healers are much needed in the end game content, so you'll always have an excellent raid spot for your class. Pally DPS is also great for PvE and PvP.
Humans, like it's been said, start off in an amazing area which is just beautiful.
I think this is a great starting class!
Good luck!
PS: If you're looking for players and so forth to game with...try picking out a high volume server..i know you can check out server stats somewhere on the web. You might want to surf around.
And give consideration to the type of server you want (i.e. PvP, PvE)

one thing to note about pallys, they have quite a poor start since blizzard changed loads of the pally mechanics. now until level 4, all you can do is activate your seal (lasts 30 mins) then just auto attack. some poor judgement (no pun) there. still, once you get to level 10 you'll be laughing in the face of huge mob pulls. don't let the first few levels put you off
EDIT: I doubt you'll find many people on your realm on these forums, since half of us are in europe and the others in america, autrailia, etc.

One more advantage to humans are the rep bonus.
Since you probably don't know what that means, basically it translates into LESS boredom and repetitive quests later.

Alright new question when do you get plate for them? My friend said 45. Is that right?

paladins get thier mount at level 30 (summon warhorse), their epic mount at level 60 (summon charger) and can wear plate at level 40, and use polarms at level 20

You're in luck to start a paladin this "late" in the game. The boring part used to extend way up to level 30 or 40. Since they changed the mechanics and moved the "self-heal in combat" down the leveling path things are a lot more fun. The equivalent of Judgement of Light used to only be available at L30+.
Enjoy!

Eh... if i could go back to when i started i would make a rogue.. they die alot at first but when you get up in the lvls there fun to play.
But for a first i would make a night elf hunter or a paladin.. just cause there fun.
But pallys do get repetative after a while.

Before WotLK paladin gameplay was:
Seals were short-lived self-buffs. A bit like now, but REALLY short. Think 30 seconds. You only had one Judgement skill with removed your active Seal and "did something". The judgement effect was described on the seal. Judging Seal of Righteousness would do damage. Judging Seal of Light would do 0 damage but apply the Judgement of Light debuff on the target.
After judging you had to re-apply the seal of your choice. If you wanted longevity you'd: Seal of Light, Judge, Seal of Light. For max mana-regen: Seal of Wisdom, Judge, Seal of Wisdom. When using these combo's your damage was almost solely coming from your auto-attacks. If you were ret you had Crusader Strike as well, but that was only from TBC onwards.
Which was very boring.
If you wanted to do more damage you'd do Seal of the Crusader, Judge (would debuff target to increase holy dmg received), Seal of Righteousness, Judge (does dmg), rebuff Righteousness, Judge, ...
Replace SoR with Seal of Command if you were ret.
But then your in-combat mana- and life-regen would take a steep nosedive which was very un-paladin like..
The signature Seal for a paladin: Seal of Light (and it's accompaning Judgement effect) was only available from L30+. Being able to "keep going" is what's most paladin-like about the class and you had to muddle along for 30 levels until you could do it.
Also:
The "Hand of ..." spells were Blessings which meant that if you used Blessing of Freedom to remove a snare/root or Blessing of Protection as a poor-mans bubble you'd have to rebuff Blessing of Might/Sanctuary/Kings/...
Very annoying
Now:
The different Judgement effects have their own "Judgement of ..." skill and they ALL do damage on top of doing something special. This means no more constant rebuffing of your combat-seal.
Judgement of Light is available from L4 ! Meaning you can play like a paladin from the get-go.
Short-lived blessings are "Hand of ..." so they don't remove "Blessing of ..." anymore when used.
These changes shifted the boring "auto-attack survival warrior" into a more active pattern akin to what warriors experience.
My pally is still only L35, so I may have missed some things, but those right there are probably the most important ones.
