As is this site. Unless people keep refering others to Wowwiki.

Part of your problem is the fact that you're leveling still, Dicey. Most talent specs are aimed at max level, which is why it'll be a wee bit harder to find answers to your question. If you'll find BM specs linked, they'll be aimed at raiding, rather than soloing/leveling.
That said, for a Hunter going down the Beastmastery lane (which is a decent enough choice to start with), focus on those talents which buff your pet most.
A few pointers/talents you might want to pick up:
Pathfinding (faster movement = huzzah!)
In general, any talent that gives you a new ability for a mere one point is worth it, such as Intimidation.
In general, moving down the talent tree is a good idea (not always, but in general).
You might have better luck asking this question in the Hunter forums. My own hunter is Survival and hasn't moved from 49 in about half a year or so, if not more.

LOL!
Hi Dicey!
Aerath is right! Most specs will be geared for leveling. Although, I've found (a) looking at other plays my level/class helps as well. If you right click on them, and then go to "inspect" you can check out how they've spent their talent points. and (b) WoW Armoury lets you look up players. You can search for other hunters at your level and see how they've spent their talent points as well!
These are two methods I've used when I wanted to compare how talents have been spent.
Additionally, as was mentioned, BM is a great solo'ing spec. This spec puts emphasis on making your pet your little tank! So, as Aerath mentioned, you'll want to put points in the areas that will buff your pet up!
Another pointer that I was told, is you want to make sure you spend your talent points so that you're constantly putting them all in one section. So, this works in two ways...generally, you're going to want to spend your talent points mostly in one tree, i.e. BM! This allows specialization, and is a bit easier to manage when starting out. Also, within that tree, you're going to want to make sure you max out each little talent block- that is, you don't want to have 1/3, and 2/4 and so forth...you want to make sure that when you spend a talent point in something, you keep spending it in it until you max it out! This lets you get the full benefit.
I use this advice, I'm not sure what others think, but it's helped me! :)
Also, you might find it interesting to look up a few pets! Certain pets are better for certain specs, and certain types of play (i.e. solo, raiding, PvP). Google "wow hunter pets" and lots of sites will come up (i'd like one, but i'm not sure if it's against rules!) but a site along the lines of *cough*petopia*cough* should come up, and it's a really informative site!!
:)
I'm like you! My bf use to pretty much guide me..but then I got on here, read up, *geeked up*, and now I'm way ahead of him! And also remember, that you really can't mess up! I mean, it might cost a few gold to respec, but you can afford to play around a bit!
Cheers! And best of luck! :)

I'm a programmer in real life.
So, one time, I was following a presentation/lesson over the web about the next version of the programming language we're using and, well, let me just say that the guy speaking was Danish so he didn't really know ALL that much english. You know, with it not being his native language and all.
So when you have people like that they tend to overuse certain catch-phrases. Like just last month I was listening to some german guy and he kept dropping "so, that makes sense" and "we're typing something here that makes sense" ALL the time.
Anyway, this Dane had his own "cool phrase". Everytime it got techy, you know, like... when normal people glaze over and say "ya lost me" he'd get all excited and you could here it in his voice. He'd go "alright, so lets geek it up a bit here" the whole session through.
In a way, the techy, the geek, the "egg-head" in me felt connected. I wasn't ashamed that I was, in fact, loving it "geeked up".
And I still do .

Yeah, living the geek life is great! I feel "white and nerdy" should be playing right now :)
hehe, embrace the geek and all will be well! :)
Also, another tip is to join a guild. Guilds are an endless pool of information *nudges Kman, eh eh*...not to mention a great source of activity and fun'ness!
you'll also notice that as you move throughout the game, you'll meet people through groups and quests. Try and keep in contact with them because they can be another awesome source of information, tools, and fun! I've got a great collection of random people that i've met over the year, and we're not at 80 together, and are in talks about gathering out different guild members and start raiding!
So, while it might not seem important now, it's good to keep a look out for people who you like! They could become your new onlinez bffz! hehehe
