Hi All;

I have started playing again and currently only have one character a Human Mage Lvl 23, With Enchanting and Tailoring as its professions.

I am looking at creating another character to start acting as banker auction house character. I have been doing a lot of reading on this subject but need some advice.

I am looking at creating another human character, warlock. But I am not sure on what professions to give it to complement my other character and any future characters i create. The sole purpose of this new char will be to sell/trade/store items.

I was thinking leather working and another but not sure. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

If its sole purpose is trade/storage, you shouldn't get any professions. You won't be able to level them past 75. If you are going to actually level the alt, then jewelcrafting and maybe inscription would most benefit your mage and any other characters.

in some cases there are still level requirements on training up to the next tier

You need to be level 5 to learn a profession and you can only learn to 75 max unless you level the bank alt as well. I've been toying with the idea of levelling my mule to get inscription and jewel crafting so I can mill and prospect low level mats for profit.

However if you only want to concentrate on your main then just create a level 1 and run it to your nearest major city.

For a bank mule enchanting is handy as you can disenchant the stuff that wont sell.

Again though, you will be stuck at DE75 until you level the mule.

As far as what race to create? Humans start at Northshire Abbey which is an easier run to SW than the run to IF, EXO or DRN from the starter grounds

Starting a lock banker is fun because you get an imp following you around even at those low levels...

The only concern you should have with an auction mule is this: if you somehow got hacked, Blizzard doesn't do restores on characters below level 10, so make sure you get the auction mule to level 10 for safety.

I didn't know this either - thanks Ren.

That's too bad, my bank alt is an old gnome wearing a full Tux, dress shoes, soap on a rope, and a noble's monocle. Somehow I don't feel like a real bank alt when I'm above level 1, so I think I'm taking my chances. Besides, are you certain they don't make an exception when the level 1 has a few hundreds or thousands of gold on him and a bank full of goodies? Blizzard must be aware of the existence of bank alts, no?

And yes, provided you level up the alt, I would take enchanting as well - disenchanted mats usually sell better than most greens - along with maybe jewelcrafting for prospecting. The latter depends on what sells better on your server, the metal or the gems.

I also have a guy in a tuxedo with a bank, a few K gold and his very own guild bank crammed full of stuff. Not taking the risk >.<

/back to leveling and learning Enchanting/JC - good suggestions!

Bah, still taking my chances, I'm crazy like that. And pretty broke too, that helps. I've thought about firing my banker, he sucks - but he just looks too fly for that.

You never know what becomes of a bank alt...mine ended up at lv 70..all of them. They have seen Karazhan and the world. Usually the bank alt is the class I enjoy least for the moment. And since I never know if I will end up playing them, they start out with mining/herbing/skinning combinations.

Should they ever reach raiding status, I re-roll the professions...which is usually easy, because I have banked so many herbs / ores / skins and cloth.

Also I always share the gold around on all my chars. Furthermore: Authenticator and virusprotection programs = pretty safe account.

I got a level 30 mage bank alt.

Initially leveled to 20 because of blink. Then to 30 because of mounts.
It'll do the job.

I found out about the level 10 restore threshold when a friend of mine was hacked, had almost all his money on a level 1 bank alt, and was told by the GM that they don't do restores on characters below level 10. In fact, it doesn't even *store* the information (which is probably why toons below level 10 don't show up on Armory).
