Am i missing the stuff i really should know since i have been refered by a friend and we are joint playing and getting 3x XP?

I thought i was going quite well and now got a level 60 mage :) but i have been told that because i have done this, my mage hasnt got a lot of the normal stuff you would get if you levelled normally.

I have done about 300ish quests to get to this level and just began quests through the dark portal but someones quizzing me as to why i only have 2 portal locations - stormwind and danaris (i think thats what it is called) I have not been to any other cities - just mostly doing quests not far from stormwind and only recently began moving further on to do pirate quests near booty bay etc

Have i missed a load of stuff i really should be picking up and is it worth while doing refer a friend or should we just slug it out and do it ourselves?

theres nothing you've missed in Azeroth. Anything that can be had in Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor is worthless once you hit Outlands. Unless you were decked in T2/T3(even than, some are replaced in 2-3 lvls).

Only thing I'd think you'd be missing is the group play strategies. Aggro management, DPS cycles on bosses, CCing with Sheep. Things like that, but just have a few people you know run you through instances to get a hang of it and you should pick up the ideas quick.

As for portals...There is a Portal in Ironforge as well, as Theramore. Thats as far as my old Mage got. Low 50's i think.

yeah if this is your 1st time playing wow, 3x exp is a bad idea.

are you missing things? yes. Of course. You're not seeing most of the content. I mean, that's obvious. There's no way you CAN see most of the content at that rate though. RAf is meant to level up people very fast so that they can raid etc. IIRC, the XP stops being 3x at level 60, so you'll want to take some time and make sure you know your class and can play in instances and groups if you're into that.

As for seeing the world you're not seeing now... you can do that on a second or third toon.

Sadly, yes you have missed quite a lot (depending on where you have been and the power of your graphics card):

standing outside Ironforge on a crisp snowy morning watching the sun rise over the mountains

almost feeling the damp coldness of a squally afternoon in Wetlands

a parachute jump off the Twin Collossi in Feralas (dont pull the ripcord too soon!)

I could go on...

Now that you are 60, you will be pretty much invulnerable to most things in Azeroth. Look up a map on the i-net or get a map-uncovering addon and set yourself a task or getting all flight points in Azeroth.

This is a good way to see the sights. Alternatively, go for the Explorer achievement, but for that you will need a map-altering addon or spend hours tryingto find the tiny bit of landscape that will tick off an area.

Take your foot off the gas for a while, 80 will always be there.

It is even worse because the XP needed to lv from 20 - 70 is also reduced drastically. Add 3 x XP to that and you just fly through the zones....(skipping most)

But if you are in quest rewards, the moment you hit Outland (or at 68 Northrend) and do the first quests, all old gear becomes obsolete.

Its something Blizzard has really screwed up essentially.. but for the majority of the players and forum trolls here "it makes most happy". I for one levelled 6 toons to 60 preTBC days and took me almost 2 years to do it playing very often (too much). When the quick exp thing came out I got pretty mad for my own reasons as it turned out. lol

But whatever Blizzard can do to get people to OL's quicker let alone NR - I guess is the whole idea. BUT the old content really was a pain in the ass to do. 5 hour BRD runs was rediculos right? Now I can walk through SV's solo in 30 minutes.

I don't think they screwed up it's just that RAF is a tool - if I wanted to reroll Horde on another server to join some friends who were 80 and raiding, I could create a new account and RAF it to level up fast I'm not missing too much because I've levelled 3 toons above 70 and a couple in their 20s... The OP is missing a lot because he or she hasn't gone through things at regular speed.

As for "I leveled the regular way!"... did you have fun? You did? Then mission accomplished.

"Tool" is a good description. Don't forget the game is 4 years old. DKs starting at 55 was something else that people liked, because it took levelling in Azeroth away. 5 days on my DK - and she is 80 and doing dailies for some time now also. It took 13-17 days on my original toons to 60.

So it sounds like a good idea to go with RaF - for some ppl it works just for the mount, for others for the XP...I need RaF in Outland now...2 characters at 62...and I cannot face Terokkar or Nagrand AGAIN.....

Get several alts to 60 while RAF is up. Pick your favorite class and roll one after the time ends. This will let you try out several classes and make the one you like your main. Sadly RAF is both a bleesing and a curse to new players. I really do advise you to snail quest one alt from 1-80 at least. Take advantage of the xp first though. Welcome to the cult of WOW.

I understand from a new person to play RaF is dumb indeed. /salute to the above.

I think my biggest complaint regarding RaF for first timers would be that with lvling so fast you also tend to earn a lot less gold for training, flying skills, etc. RaF really works best for people who already have at least one character that can assist them with gold/mats they might need...

I think the point of RAF is so that your "friend' can teach you to play not the game. Then you dont need to be slow as your buddy should have you up to speed before OL
