I started playing half way through college. Although my friends from high school were all over the country at different universities, we were able to still do stuff together in Azeroth.
Well fast forward a few years, I just graduated and am now looking for a job. As it happens job hunting only takes a few hours a day, then I have a painfully large amount of free time. I started playing the game so much that it became nothing but drudgery. I wasn't playing for fun, I was playing because "That trinket would be good for my tanking set". I was becoming like my friends who have gone from the "social drinkers" of WoW to full blown alcoholics. I rarely play with my old friends anymore, they're typically in one raid or another.
So after I leveled my second 80, I did a Wintergrasp and abused Demonic Circle a bit, then logged off and canceled my subscription.
I'm still bored, and I'm thinking about resubscribing. If anyone has some suggestions on how to make the game fun again, I'd appreciate the input.
After levelling so many alts and maybe trying to do "every single quest" on one to get the loremaster achievement....there isn't much left when you do have a "painfully large amount of free time" - unless you set yourself time consuming goals like raiding or arena pvp

This is gonna come across as negative I'm afraid but if a game that is meant to be fun has gotten to the point where it feels like drudgery then maybe you ought to consider looking at some other game for a while.WoW is a great game but for myself at least a large part of the enjoyment is interacting with the friends I have within the game.Without them it can quickly become rather dull.
Hope you have good luck with the job hunting :)

WoW doesn't really have much of a repeatability factor.
To change things up you can start a new toon race to get a different set of starter quests but soon enough you will end up in the main areas doing the same quests for the same reward.
TBH, I have a 70 warrior atm but once that gets to 80 I think I will start to get bored very quickly if I cant get any casual raiding done.

My happiest time is at Scholomance, with my 4 other friends. one of them's account has been striped by hacker. we exchange our account to play. then joke at each other's skill, very funny at that time, at high school. I miss that time.
if u wanna play it fun, better play with your friends to a small instance, with equips not so good, and not so bad.
but ....i prefer give up this game. if you gonna play this a long time.
Blizz making this game more and more boring than it was.
A numbered game, all numbers around. BOSS, DPS, Equips' statics, level and so on.
MMOs ruined so many people's life. Like my life. I give it up, not exactly........because when u feel empty, u will think about this, like addicted.
sorry about my frustrating words.

You CAN do something too much y'know... for me the game doesn't lose it's appeal because I don't have oodles of time to spend on it.
Try your hand at programming a bit and then you can do addon-programming. This way you can actually turn that time into something useful for more ppl than yourself.

....
I programed one (set autoloot, shortkeys , chatframe's position and so on. poor addons but useful ), and pack my addons to my friends. but later I'm tired of this. It looks like I'm stuck in a circle.
play wow all day long (8 hours for sleep per day) =>2 month later, get tired, doing something else=> play again.
Now, I feel better, because I graduated. Now I will have a job to spend my time.:afro:
[Sorry about my english, If u can not understand what I'm speaking, I'm sorry. ]

I suspect that this is the key problem.
WoW is a game that is meant to be enjoyed with friends, be it old friends, new friends, real-life friends, imaginary friends, etc. While it can be played as a single-player game, it quickly loses its appeal in this mode.

I agree completely. Even if you're just online at the same time, chatting etc. it makes all the difference. I leveled up a character on a US realm last year, I quickly made friends with a bunch of lovely people, and I had a blast. If you run a few instances and meet someone who seems cool, ask if you can join their guild. Guild chat banter is always good for a laugh :)
