I have a horde character, today I was in Ratchet and challenged to a duel by a yellow letter named alliance player. When i declined the duel some how this player prompted all the npcs to attack me. My questions are how did he get a yellow letter name, and why did the ratchet npcs attack me?
Thanks for any info

I think the yellow name was due to him being pvp flagged.

As for the attacking - no idea

That's because you are a horde in ratchet. And you weren't tagged for pvp. So any alliance chars will have yellow names.

Reason the guards attacked you is that you must have, somehow tagged yourself for pvp by hitting the alliance char. And, because ratchet is a neutral town the guards attack the player who started the fight. I should mention this sometimes doesn't work tho. It really depends on where you are standing in ratchet. But there's places where you can kill allies (and vice versa) and the guards won't kill you.

Sounds like the old dupe someone into PVP combat by offering a duel and then cancelling it last minute, its quite a common on my realm for the Alliance to play this trick on low level Hordes in Ratchet

A yellow character name means that you can attack them but they can't attack you. If you pvp in a neutral town you get attacked by the guards.

A yellow character name means that you can attack them but they can't attack you. Just a quick clarification: They can't attack you unless you attack them first.

What it sounds like happened is that you right clicked on the flagged alliance player, which caused you to autoattack him. When you attack a flagged player, you become flagged as well. (If you are flagged, them players of the opposite faction can attack you.) There are also some NPCs that are PvP "flagged." When you mouse over them, the little tooltip box will say "PvP" in it among other stuff. You will see the same thing for flagged players.

Sometimes players of the opposite faction will harass people (usually in low level questing areas) and run around flagged and do things that might make you accidentally click on them. They might stand on top of an NPC you need to talk to so you might click them instead of the NPC. When someone is doing this, be extra careful where you click.

When I was levelling my first character, a Human Warrior, I was in Ratchet and an Orc about 20 levels lower than me was jumping around doing /rude /spit etc. I fancied my chances (having a whole 20 levels over him!), so attacked him. 3 seconds later I was dead on the ground, having been killed by several guards, and the Orc just stood there ROFLing at me...

That's how I learned about the neutral town thing.

But as others above me have said, some players get a perverse thrill out of causing death by guard in these places. You have to be very careful. Even if someone else starts the fight, don't hit them back like I did once - the other guy just vanished and left me to die :S

Hate neutral towns.

The best case of Death by guard in a neutral town.

It's brilliant! I didn't think you got tagged unless you actually hit something, like you said Eileithyia, poor guy didn't even finish the spell! x'D

I sent that round the office, got many laughs :)

Wow. I mean, wow. My son has been watching the "televised" Blizzard Regional Arena Tournament, and that guy died faster than the fastest arena death so far seen. And there are some mighty fast ones. Guards ftw.

Next official arena tournament will probably see a 5v5 team of guard NPCs.
