I don't think I really get what you are trying to ask. Could you please rephrase that :?

yup. You need to get the deeper talents as fast as possible, to up your damage or give you surviveability skills.
also, don't do arcane until much higher levels. As a beginning arcane mage, you would mostly use frost or fire spells--so you may as well spec frost or fire.

Lost me on this one. We're still talking about specs, right?

If you are asking about where to spend your talent points, choose fire or frost and put all your points in one tree. Don't spend any points in arcane until you are much higher level.
If you are asking what spells to use, you can use spells from all three of the trees no matter what spec you are. So if you are frost spec, you can still use fire and arcane spells. But when you are fighting mobs, your main damage spells should be from the school in which you spent your talents. Frost spec, use frostbolts. Fire spec, use Fireball. Don't hesitate to use utility spells like frost nova or fire blast no matter what spec you are though.
Read the stickies from the mage forums for more in depth info.

Levelling two mages one to 71 (ice) and another to 36 (fire), my ice mage was the easier than fire. The lvl 36 mage is my banker toon.
Ice for me was easier due to the ice shield and the water fiend plus all the fun lov'n ice talents to cripple your mobs better then your typical fire mage.
AoE Blizzard after a successful improved ice trap with improved Blizzard/ice slowing effects is so freaking awesome.
I fouond I died a lot faster as a fire mage... although killed quicker (one on ones). However, as you all know a bad pull or multiple mobs on a pajama wearing type class you need to escape fast! Ice can do that with imp. freeze trap and that lovely ice barrier.

Only mix when you've pretty much filled out a tree. The best talents are at the end of each tree, so you want to get them first. Even then you're unlikely to have more than 10 points in your secondary tree.

early levels ( till 20 ) : fire power
leveling ( 25 till 80 ) : ice power
endgame raiding : see the mage section :)

I'm totally frost specked at lvl 55. Yes, I've found that there are mobs like water elementals who are immune to frost--in that case I find that my fire spells are perfectly adequate even though I have no talents in fire.

Honestly frost or fire for leveling. I've done both and enjoyed both immensely. Arcane I'm not a fan. For leveling, and especially at your level, it really doesn't matter.
