if you are a started I would suggest PVE till you learn the basics and then make a PVP character. Personally I think that PVP is way more fun. But u will get rap*d in the beginning.

OK

you do not get experience for killing enemy players you get honor points how ever in patch 3.2 you will get experience while in BGs.

In a PvP realm the only time you can turn PvP off is while your in a territory owned buy your faction, you will know if its owned by your faction because upon zoning in the zone name will be in green.

Green means you cant get attacked unless you attack the enemy.
Yellow mean the zone is Contested and you can attack and be attacked.
Red means its owned by the opposite faction, this means that you can attack the enemy unless they attack first.
Blue means the zone is a sanctuary and no fighting is possible at any time.

PvP is fun when your the one doing the killing.

as im more into end game stuff PvE for me is more fun.

In order:
1. No. As noted, bgs will give you xp after an upcoming patch, but I don't believe honor kills (world pvp) will.
2. You can turn pvp off on a pvp server only in your faction's starting zones. Once you make it into contested zones, you will always be pvp enabled.
3. Personally, I dislike pvp. I live in a household with others who swear by it. It's a choice you're going to have to make. I do occasionally like doing pvp, strictly on my terms, like battlegrounds, or capital raids. I don't want to be ganked while I'm happily minding my own business, questing or gathering.
4. I know I would not enjoy a pvp server, so I have never rolled on one.

Regular roleplaying realms are like regular PvE realms, except that people try to stay in character.

RP-PvP realms are like PvP realms, same thing.

RP- (Roleplaying) If you're into REALLY getting into the lore, and the backstory of WoW and like to live in a fantasy world this is for you.
PvP-(Player V Player) If you are leet at pvp then this is for you, If not it's best to stray away from these servers, or else you will regret it later on.
Normal- This is an all around good server, Don't have to worry about Rp'ers, and pvp when not toggled. I suggest this type for you seeing how you're just starting out.
Good luck!

On top of what was said about RP and RP-PvP realms, they are also much more laid back and easy going. I once accidentally pulled Patchwerk with my race car that we got at Christmas and wiped the raid. I was known as "Speed Racer" ever since.

I get the feeling if I was on a PvP or PvE server, I would have been kicked from the raid and probably banned from raiding for a week.

In fact, I know several people who said the only reason they play on my server (an RP one) is BECAUSE of the laid back atmosphere, and they know that if they screw up in the raid, this will NOT happen to them:
