Not exactly rocket science. I started a warrior on a new server for fun and had almost 200g by level 20.

I have mining on my DK and just flying around (Epic flyer though) Icecrown I get at least 200g an hour. In one hour I usually get over 6 stacks of Saronite Ore, then about 4-10 Titanium Ore, along with at least one blue Gem... Then of course don't forget about the Eternals I get =P... Usually get at least 1 Eternal (Fire, Earth, or the other one... Forget the name) and it's fairly easy to do even if it's peak time.

The easiest way to get gold at the start of the game is to buy cooking recipes from vendors and put them on the auction house at 1000% of the price you paid.

For example, there is a vendor in Old Town Stormwind that sells about 12 recipes for between 5 and 50 silver each. Buy one of each, put them on the auction house for 4g 99s each and you should sell at least some of them. There are other recipes that sell better, but this is very quick and easy.

For Horde I think the Crispy Bat Wing recipe sold in Brill is best.

I did this and didn't have any money troubles while levelling.

Anyway, here's one nobody mentioned. Make as many new alts as you can and run them to the nearest cap city (SW if you're alliance).

Then, while you're on your auction house mule, watch the general chat for the following type of message. "Paying xx gold if you sign my guild charter. You can leave after it's formed."

Usually these are good for 5 or 10g. Since you sort of need to stay signed on the charter until they get it filled, having several low alts will let you join several guild charters at a time. When someone starts asking, log in a low alt, sign up, collect your gold and switch back to your mule. Repeat with other alts for other charters as necessary.
