Wish list: What else for the ALT Starter experience?
But what else, would you like to see added, to make the ALT adventures once WoW:C comes out, even better? what else could they do to make it even MORE fresh for ALT people and new players alike...?
New LFG tool, new torturial, new character creation menu, and all the updated content that WoW:C will roll out with.
Never in my 10 year MMORPG career have I seen a developer bet so much on the starter experince 4-5 years after release, and I love it. They could have carved this under the carpet and have something like 10-12 expansions like everquest did, leaving massive massive MASSIVE amounts of abbandoned, desolate content in the dust. no... outland and northrend were expeditions.. with WoW:C all the players are being called back to the real world to turn this 360 degrees back to square one, while reviving the good old world.
That was perhaps one of the few things I felt could be better in Wrath. The barber was nice, but I felt that the amount of new hairstyles was not THAT interesting or uniqe. its not that easy to stand out these days.. particularly if you play elf/human/tauren.. yeah actually many races. many people like to play with helmet graphics disabled as it gives you a feeling that its your character and your expression coming through the game(take note Diablo 3..)
a)Undead: Half, the character model being a skeleton variant.. same build, but being able to have other sort of deformations and rotten variants. of all the races, the most potential might be with undead because they are dead, a eye socket hanging outside the skull, or a open skull with an axe cleave sitting halfway down the head, or maybe a arrow whole going straight through the body model of the character..? I am sure there are lots of good ideas from zombie movies for this.
b)Human: Tattoos, mohawk, cornrow, pircings, scars, body scars, necklace, bandage on the body, eyepatch(choose either side), seperate tab for beards(goatee, mustache), toned-down make up for girls, more hair variants, dreadlocks(might be to hard to do), practical normal glasses
c)elf: different tab for eye glow density and nuance.. just small difference, not that we have to have 360 degrees of teletubbis multicolored elfs, but maybe tone down your elfs glow or make it more green/yellow, different length of ears.. you know what they say about a elf with long ears...
d)tauren: chained horns or jewelry for horns.. bandage for broken horn, loose-sitting horn that is about to fall off, pimped-out bell necklace that make a cow-bell sound,
e)gnome: wooden/metallic tinker leg,
f)troll: many new hairstyles, different ears, gnome ears-necklace, pircing on fang, slef-mutilated whipped body,
g)dwarf: beardless dwarf, young handsome looking dwarf to counter the old fat looking dwarfs, adjust of red "cold" cheeks, gold teeth, mohawk,
h)seperate set of fangs, tattoos, eyepatch, battle-scars, shamanic necklaces,....
2)Reward for Veterans: extra initiative for Vets to make an ALT
a)uniqe title. A Veteran making an help, has allot of knowledge about the game and is in a good position to help new players who are unexperienced, yet expected to know so much... maybe a helper title, or a guardian title could be added for veterans helping new players. maybe in the game being able for a lvl 80 to put up a <HELPER> title next to their name to illustrate that they are willing to help new players.
free customer support, improves community, makes the ride smoother for new players, completely optional, new goals and desires for players who like to help others.
b)character unlocks. what if a veteran player with a lvl 80 or several lvl 80s under his belt could unlock account-wide things like sub races? A sub-race could be a Dark Iron Dwarf, Fel Orcs, Ice Trolls, drenei(lost ones) high elfs(for Alliance).. basically identical varients of the normal races with same models, but with a little twist in the visual customization.
dark iron dwarfs could have darker skin that its optional for normal dwarfs, fel orcs could have demonic eye glow, the high elfs would have blue eyes instead of green but otherwise be identical to blood elfs...
Suddenly without that much extra work, the veteran players would get the same in a new package..
c)updated racials:
so maybe it is time for some more cool-looking racials? whatever happened to Tauren Planesrunning, the build-in-mount in the Tauren?
human: being able to call forth a war-dog for 2 minutes to help aid in combat. the dog is passive, but attacks whatever the owner attacks, the dog can be upgraded through ranks to new-and cooler looking dogs
gnome: being able to call forth tinker missiles from the sky for 10 seconds doing a AOE...
tauren: planes running: running on all four like an enraged bull.. / players able to ride on tauren, making the player getting a free ride on the tauren player?
elf: ?
orc: war cry.. starts powling own chest like an insane guerillia while screaming a battle cry for nice buff
undead: has really nice racials already. eating a corpse has always been useful and graphically satisfying
dwarf: throw a boomerang hammer-thor style, for nice ranged stun attack. should be useful for dwarfen pallys.
troll: take forth a voodoo doll and starts to stab it with needle, with the animation having a big spear just popping out of thin air and penetrating the target..
draenei: ?
3)more useful and less complicated profession work from get-go:
a)speed-up the cooking and fishing processes making it easier and less time-consuming to make something useful. most trash loot should be able to be turned into some sort of consumeable. maybe have some consumeable made from bad loot with added debuffs as side bonusses? so you might make a consumeable from murloc eyes at lvl 8, but while you get added stamina, you have -3 intellect... for some classes these debuffs on some consumeables would be worth it, for others not. EITHER way it would give more strategic choice, and fun time, if you were actively turning things into consumeables as you went along.
usually now a days cooking/fishing is done after much higher levels instead of as part of the experience...
right its too cumbersome and not worth it to play with cooking at low levels. well it can be good, but it takes so much time, that you would have more productive results just skipping it entirely, and thats a missed oppertunity, to diverse gameplay away from quest/killing. it is warCRAFT after all.
b)during the early levels, low level blacksmith, leatherworkers, and so on, should be able to make powerful and worthwhile weapons for these levels. so before leaving elwynn shire or westfall you will feel the need to craft weapons during these weapons, because they would be worth it, and not that complicated.
basically starting out the player on a positive crafting note. right now, it takes the player out of the way to get into the crafting.. if your a human you have to travel to stormwind to get everything you need. trainers and profession quests in goldshire already.
professions should assist.
c)guild specific crafting items.. maybe guild tabards that was made by guild crafters will look special.. could also apply to guild mascot pets, color/size/name of bags(icon), keys for chests, banners/flags, cosmetic guild hats, casual clothes for bank alts, guild specific weapons.. could only be used by guild members, would get redeemed in the guild bank should player if weapon delete his character or leave guild.
d)make a more competitive marked for crafters. there are not really gameplay enough for a player to focus all his time just crafting. but since this game is about WAR, it also makes sense that the players should help fuel the war effort. many players enjoy meaningful and deep crafting. unfortunately its hard right now for a crafter to stand out in his community.. wether it would be crafting wise, crafting useful stuff for new players while being rewarded or competing on the auction house for the supremacy as the best craftsman or women, in the universe, would be awesome.
4)Tie the Community together:
a)Revive Crossroads PvP, and similiar places.
Basically, the high end players will be brought back into the old world.
it's time let people cross paths again. people on PVE servers are free, while PvP server people should be encouraged to take the danger...
basically, if your a lvl 15 horde, you shouldn't be forced to quest in the crossroads if your scared of ganking,..
you should have diversity and options, but you should also be able to go there - knowing that ganking happens there, but should you choose to defy it and rely on your horde brothers, you should be rewarded in some way.. better xp from the quests in that area.
quests in pvp heavy zones shouldnt be Kill "20 X or collect 30 Y" but more quests that can still be fun, even if you have a high risk getting attacked by the other faction.
the faction protecting cities, quest hubs and areas of interests should also be rewarded.. it would have to be done in a new way, as Plaugelands and much of outland zone pvp was fail. but it can be done. In the name of crossroads pvp, that we all loved! but optional.. never forced. choice is key.
b)Don't make a new shat/dalaran. It's time for the horde and alliance to stay seperate. this is a great initiative to make lesser popular Capital(dreanei and NE capitals come to mind) much more useful... the war is brewing, and the horde and alliance should be to each own.
c)make a tab for people to be able to write their backstory for their character.. when you inspect them. basically i can inspect any player, and browse through the character sheet, PvP, talents, and then also biography.. were a player can write anything that he/she wants to.. maybe guild recruitment, maybe roleplaying background, maybe instructions about specific items on AH being sold. it will be a great tool for players, and make it much more creative for the players to sit in Ironforge or Orgri and read peoples hilarious backstories all day, posting pictures of the best ones and putting them online.
its such a small thing that could be so much fun. its old school role-playing, its creative, it's optional, nobody will need to watch it should they not choose it. the same rules should apply as to the chat, so the censoring filter should also work in the bio. the bio should only be loaded if player wants to read a bio, so it wont slow down servers or performance for players who dont care.
d)scaleable things - blizzard have said that they had talked about scale-able legendary weapons in the past, but hesitated because the game needs to have players keep getting new gear. well okay.
but what about mounts or even vanity pets that can scale with the players in customization? different looks, ability to name mount, change color of saddle, add war armor or updated look for hunter pets or warlock pets?
basically all these things could be rank-stuff making a new source of things to pour money into.
imagine if your guild mate made you a guild vanity pet, that you got at lvl 4, and that feeding it consumeables, it would raise in levels, and do different stuff and look different.. it would still be useless, but it could be fun to have as a little virtual useless pokemonish pet to pour money and time into, if done the right way of course.. maybe it would make more sense for warlock, hunter pets and mounts. perhaps also summons from mage/death knight?
what more would you like to see to improve the levelling experience EVEN more? please post all your suggestions:)
I am unable to contribute at this moment due to an unexplicable halt of creativity. I post to express my admiration of these wonderful, fun and (on the whole) thought-through suggestions!

Thank you, friend.
I posted mostly just to get the ball rolling.. But it looks like I will be rolling this one alone....
Well, don't give up! I think most of your suggestions are well worth a good look at by devs, especially concerning ways to customize your character even more.

Not to shoot this idea down, but if anyone is interested in the RP servers, there are several mods that allow you to do just this. Someone has to have the same mod you have but I think 2 mods at least are cross compatible in some of their features.

alot of it is cool, particularly the subrace idea.
I will differ with you on cooking and fishing which I think are already too easy and there is no real reward for anyone who puts in the time since practically everyone will do it
I have a few lore based issues with this and one very large non lore based issue...
I, as a player with a tauren main, find pretty much all the tauren based suggestions either lame, or approaching downright insulting.

Well, we have been punting gnomes for about 5 years now, it was about time with a change on that account ^^.
Back on track, very nice list, hope some dev's see it.
