Leatherworking: Medium Leather Recipies

I am at the level where I need light hide and medium leather for the new recipies.
I can make both, but to spend 4 medium leather on a pair of pants is a lot. I think 4-8 light leather is needed for 1 medium.

Will I soon begin to find medium leather? Or must I spend huge amounts of light leather each time?

I am level 18 rogue at the moment and questing in Silverpine Forest :) ...

Haven't played horde in that area, but my level 17 is starting to find med leather in Darkshore. So, you're close. Sounds like you just got a little ahead of the game.

I think it's 4 light leather = 1 med. Which comes in handy when you have 4 stacks of light leather taking up space in your pack. You can condense that into 1 stack in just a few minutes.

But to answer your question...Yes, you will eventually start getting Med. leather and then even Heavy leather directly from the corpse. I know that the level of the corpse has something to do with it (higher level = greater chance of med. or heavy leather) but sometimes you just get 2 or 3 pieces of light leather instead.

Medium leather starts dropping/skinning from mobs after lvl 20. So you don't need to make medium from light.

It depends as much on your skinning level as anything else.
I just hit skinning 200 and occasionally get medium leather from 'grey' corpses (i moonfire all sickly gazelles I see, and skin them)
You do realise that, like a monster, the corpse has a skin rating - grey, green, yellow, red, etc. The higher the rating, the greater the chance of skinning something you need. I'm level 24, and frequently get 2 light leather or 1/2 medium leather off 19+ corpses.
My problem is now the receipes are requiring potions and spider silk.

Your Skinning Level doesnt change the loot from skinning, it only determines what corpses you can skin (Skinning/5= max monsterlevel).

Higher mobs will yielld better Leather.

Thanks for all the great answers :)
Here at WoW.net I read the Leatherworking Game Guide (Upper left on the front page) and it said something about a little Engineering needed for every step up in Leatherworking.

Is it true you get dependant on other professions than skinning later on? Or is it only for a few recipies and not so hard to get items?

Gotta save Spidersilk from now on, good to know I will need that in the future :) ...

I have found that to make certain items, especially the better ones, yes, you will need items from other professions such as potions, bolts of cloth, or iron buckles. However, there are almost always recipes that make lesser quality items and raise your skill level but do not require cross-profession items.
