Alchemy - group of two with Herbalism, Mining, Skinning?
I run a couple mages. I DO NOT want a profession that costs alot of money or time.
Herbalism, Mining and Skinning are my three gathering professions. I can use these along the way without taking alot of time. I will be selling most of this stuff.
Can I raise Alchemy as I level, without alot of cost or money? I would rather not have to constantly be searching the AH for components or bargain shopping. I dont want to have to go back to a main city to make stuff.
This would be just something where I could use components I find, and the vials I carry with myself, and craft in the field.
If you want to make money - go skinning/mining. If you want to buff yourself up, go alchemy/herbalism.
If you're going alchemy, herbalism is almost a must. They complement each other very well and you will have no problem leveling both skills fairly rapidly. Mid to high lvl herbs are ridiculously expensive at the AH so it's better to just get them yourself.
If you take alchemy, you will occasionally have to take trips back to any town to pick up some vials to create your stuff with. They stack up to 20, if I remember correctly, so you can also carry around a couple.
If you don't want to take multiple trips to the AH, do what I do and create a lvl 1 character for the sole purpose of holding on to items and hanging around the AH. This way, when I'm all the way in Kalimdor and want to AH some of the loot I got, I can just mail it over to my lvl1 and he can sell it. Similarly, my lvl1 is the guy who does all the bidding. The only downside is that I don't get in-game messages telling me that I've been outbid on stuff/auction has sold.
ash2ash,
Thanks for the reply. Ive been running my pair of fire mages pretty successfully. One is Skinning/Herbalism. The other is Mining/Alchemy. I can keep both Herbalism and Mining radars up at the same time, while still feeding the Alchemist.
They have been making extremely nice cash given they are only 13th so far.
And running them this way lets me run Alchemy now, and if I get a big craving to run dual Engineers (Goblin Jumper Cables on each, cool goggles, one goblin, the other gnomeish, Horde of pets, etc.) I can always drop the Herb/Alchemy and level up engineering fairly quickly.
I have used the mule in the past, but havent done too much of it lately. I think I might have to take up your suggestion, as right now they have to hit the auction house an aweful lot.
Hmm...sounds good. I was thinkin of makin some $$$ chars myself. Don't know if I will. If skinning and mining beneficial if i keep the chars at low levels like around 20?
Well if the gatherer is low level you either wont be able to skin the kill of the high level (unless you dragging the low level around via two accounts into high level areas) and same with mining.
They need to level to be useful. So honestly pick the trades that you really want to do. If you really could care less about crafting, then pick skinning and either mining or herbalism to gather extra loot as you travel.
If you dont mind being poor, and like the idea of crafting, then go for it. I did mining and engineering on my previous character, and it was ok. Goggles are cool. Devices can be interesting. I am not thinking that they are worth it for my current guys. Alchemy might be, but if not I can just sell what I gather.
But if you like the idea of being a blacksmith, making engineering devices, enchanting stuff (this is REALLY rough though - not for the faint of heart); then go for it. You can always drop it later.
I just have two characters, and they dont really need anything. These skills mean I at least wont be poor.
