Hi Everyone,
I've been playing RPGs for many years starting from the Dungeon Master and Might and Magic Xeen era.I suppose the best of the recent games must be the Morrowind and Gothic series and until now I've never wanted to play an online game.I am now seriously thinking of trying the World of Warcraft experience and would greatly appreciate any help or advice.
Does this game bear any resemblance to Morrowind or Gothic and would the quests etc.be similar?
I think that I would rather play as a Loner,so what would be the best character to chose?
You could play just about any character solo and be able to get by - it all depends on what appeals to you most. I like my Half Elf Druid as he can do a bit of everything, but I've also go a Warrior that's fun to play too.
Mind you, the most fun is in grouping with other players. Some quests really need more than one of you, and it is a very sociable game after all :)
So, for variety a hybrid build is good - Druid, Hunter, Shaman etc - though "pure " builds are also good but perhaps better in groups - Priest, Warrior Mage.
And, yes, Rogues do sound like a lot of fun too ;)
Rogue is serious fun. I only died twice so far..and i do see a LOT of dead players. If I'd paid more attention to the skills and the manual, those deaths would have been avoidable as well. (Matters to me as I used to be a LOD HC addict :) )
Up to lv 11 (its where I am) it is quiet easy to solo..and I expect it to remain easy for some time. I need to be more secure with the game before I attempt playing in a group. Indeed it seems that most ppl around me play solo in the early stages of the game.
So...yeah...I'd recommend a rogue..mainly because I picked it for the reason to solo myself.. :)
hold up a sec! If you're interested in rogue, then be sure to check out a cat form specced druid first. It has many characteristics of a rogue, with a tiny decline in dps, but you gain so much more. You get travel form at lvl 30 that increases your run speed by 40%, practically killing the need to get a mount unless your a perfectionist and really need an extra 10% speed boost. You also get a full array of healing and buff spells that the rogue does not have access to. While a rogue may be able to kill faster, a cat-specced druid won't have as much downtime. You'll also have an easier time finding a group for instances as you can go as a healer. You also have aquatic form, which makes stealth raiding easier and much faster. The only thing a rogue really has thats missing from druid is sap, which can easily be countered by entangling roots. The final benefit a cat specced druid has over the rouge is the track humanoid ablility at lvl 32, which allows you to pvp better, and not get snuck up on as much.
My suggestion for best solo class would be Warlock. Why? 1. You can summon a pet to tank for you and a Voidwalker can soak up a lot of damage. 2. Many of your spells are damage-over-time, which means you can be damaging several targets at a time while still having some latitude to keep an eye out for adds, 3. You can resurrect yourself after dying - the only other class that can do that is Shaman, and they have rez sickness after doing so - warlock doesn't. Probably second best choice would be Shaman or Hunter, with Hunter being quite similar to the Warlock but he can't rez himself after dying (though he does have a neat "play dead" skill). Rogue is certainly playable solo, largely because they can sneak around and have ways of getting out of bad combat situations (*cough* vanish *cough*). Druid is also a very durable solo character because he can both fight and heal himself. I would not recommend a priest or mage. They're both quite fragile which makes them difficult to play solo, especially if you are new to the game. Not impossible, and there are plenty of mages around who play solo (I have a mage myself) but you're asking for the best solo class.
I wouldn't prioritize ability to solo in choosing a class. If you don't like casting spells from a distance or keeping track of summoned creatures, then you're not going to be happy with a warlock despite its virtues as a solo character.

Well I've just ordered the game from Amazon,so in a few days I'll see what I've been missing!I suppose that I'm looking for a character that will survive and advance quickly whilst playing solo and it looks as if the Rogue's ability to avoid trouble could be the answer.Like det I think that I would prefer to get a few levels under my belt as a loner before attempting to play in a group.

But he's looking for a low-level soloist. By the time any character gets to level 30, they'll be good at soloing! For low-level, Rogue or if you prefer Orc, Shaman.
