Mining skill advancment rate

Hiya,

I am only a matter of days into playing this game, im a level 11 mage using mining as a money maker and tailoring as my production skill. When smeltering copper ore to bars i found my skill advanced very quickly up to about level 60. Ive noticed getting from there tio about 75 very slow when mining and smeltering, i would probably gain 1 skill point per 20/30 times i smelt copper. Is this expected, does smeltering better ores speed up the advancment of skill again??

Smelting works just like your tailoring skills. If it appears in orange text you'll always get a skill up, yellow - probably skill up (about 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 chance), green - small chance of skill up (somewhere around a 1 in 5 chance). Once you can mine and smelt tin and then bronze you'll be able to skill up to about 100 relatively quickly. Then it'll take a long time to get to 125 where you can mine and smelt iron. Same thing after iron untill you get to mithril at 175.

See a patern? :)

I'm alliance so not sure. However there are probably about 3 tailor trainers there right? One will be a journeyman trainer, one master and one an expert. When one can't train you anymore you go to the next highest one.

Have you talked to all the trainers there?

They will also often refer you to the next trainer in your faction - not always, but often.

I've noticed that the secondary trainers don't help you out much in that regard. Primaries almost always do.
