Dropping leatherworking for mining ?

Ok im a lv 54 Shaman with leatherworking and Skinning. Skinning is max Leatherworking is 263, and i still havent specialised in dragonscale or tribal/elemental. The thing is since im leatherworker the thing i skin is used by myself.. so no gold from that :/ And the things i can make as leatherworker are stuff no one would EVER buy or there are like 20 in AH already.. so easyer to sell em to vendor :/

Now im lv 54 and i only got 60 gold after training my skills.. I was wondering wouldnt it be better to drop leatherwork and go for mining than.. If it is i proly have to crawl true low lv areas to boost mining skills first. Any advice speeding true it ? :D

If keeping leatherwork would be better were to specialise in ? I know there are TONS of dragonscale leatherworkers already.. so thats not really good to specialise in than.. I was thinking of elemental so i can make rogue equipment ? Im really still clueless about were to specialise in..

And i really want a epic mount at lv 60 :P But at the current rate that i get gold.. i wont be getting it anytime soon than :/

what does leather sell for on your server? It sells "extremely well" on mine.

I can spend a few hours grinding on the Yeti's north of SS for medium leather, convert to heavy and make 15/20g in AH. Of course, I am on the alliance side and the AH is typically more active.

prices for thick leather+ is o.k. at our server. But prices for leather stuff are crappy.
I just dropped leatherworking for mining.

I would only go for mining if you are a rogue.

It sounds like you still "use" items you make as a LW, so my first thought is don't drop it, if you're still getting use from it. If you're willing to "start fresh" slugging thru the low areas to learn a new skill, why not just roll a new character to go with it ? That way you get the best of both. Maybe pick a class that gets a free mount and then you don't even have to worry about his gold.

Here is another way you can use your LW to make some coin in AH (and this works for other lines as well). You will still need a second character though, and it will need to be an enchanter. Pick a couple of your LW patterns that produce green and/or blue items and just make those. Mail them to your enchanter and disenchant. Then put the dust/essence/etc. on the AH. Experiment a bit to see which pattern can be made the cheapest/easiest and which produces the best essences. Enchanting is a money sink, because the only way they can get the raw materials is from disenchanting green or blue (or purple ?) items (which can be hard to come by). So there is always a need for dust and essences on AH.

Can't help you too much here, as I just recently picked my specialty (Dragon). The one thing I did do though, was to get with the other high level LW's in my guild and we eached picked a different line. That way all 3 are covered and we agreed to help each other out. If I get materials for Elemental or Tribal, I send them to my partners and they send me stuff for Dragon. Either way, there are still some good patterns from before you have to choose a specialty that you can make money from. It might not be the highest and best, but then not everyone needing stuff will be the highest and richest.

Hope that helps some :)

I don't want to get the thread off track, but after thinking about it some, it occurred to me that there is the possibility for most of the craft lines to become obsolete.

Only in theory, but suppose the server eventually gets maxed on accounts. And suppose every account (=player) creates their max number of alts, gets them all to 60 and equiped with all the gear/armor/packs/weapons/enchants they need. Nothing ever deteriorates beyond repair. Am I overlooking something, or are mining (i.e. arrows and bullets) and herbalism (potions) the only professions that would still have an open (although very limited) market ?

wel i dont use anything i made myself.. beside rugged armor kit... and i sell 3 for 2.75 goldin ah. Its the only way i can make money with my leatherworking.

And since i never done enchanting or someting like that before.. Does that mean i have to get a decent lv char with decent lv enchant ? or can u disenchant stuff at the first lv ?

And im almost lv 55 now.. must get epic mount.. MUST GET :(
Im earning about 10-15gold each day >.< something tels me i wont get to my epic mount at this rate.. But heard the high lv instance are really good for money :P so maybe there is hope :D

If you are making 10-15 gold a day you are doing much better than me. I am a level 57 Hunter atm, and just got to 203 gold. Have a bunch of gold locked up in item stock (items taking up space in bank and mailbox that sell, but only every so often), but will take awhile for that to pan out at the Auction House. Anyway, once I hit 60 and can stop buying skills and leatherworking recipes I will be in better shape. I refuse to buy weapons or armor at the AH, or spend cash on enchants, and I am making a pact to not ever drop below 200 gold. I too, must get my epic mount as soon as I can.
