After playing for a while i've been having trouble deciding which class to teach engineering. I know it gives neat gadgets and all, but is it worth it? Instead of throwing an explosive at my enemy i could simply just buy a gun/bow with any class. So why bother and If i should get engineering what class should i get it for?

Engineering is at its best in PvP, it's not very good in PvE. If you are going to pich your race/class after Engineering, then Gnome would be the best race, as of class, just pick what you want to play. And IMO i think the gadgets in engineering are much better than the bombs, but you should figure out yourself. Some people like to do much dmg, others like to use more tricky methods of brining down your victim. Tho, gadgets have the not-always-so-cool backfire :P

untrue.
a gun, bow or wand will never do as much dmg as an explosive of same lvl. besides, bombs do area effect you know.
bombs can be used for a lot of things, especially useful when concerving or out of mana. for example: priests in my guild often ask me to get them EZ-throw II dynamite. (of course they dont use it as openers, cuz it draws too much aggro, but it is perfect when conserving mana & a group of mobs is standing together.)

engineering is about having fun first & everything else comes later. few things ingame are as amusing as seeing an explosive sheep charge the enemy, or see a battle chicken become 'enraged'.
there is no race that is 'best at' engineering. gnomes have the edge, but it really doesnt matter at all.
as for being best in PvP, that is pretty much a lie.
will you waste a mithril/arcanite dragonling with 1 hour CD for 1 honor kill? i usually dont. will you waste a thorium grenade on one honor kill? nope i dont.
however, these gadgets can really turn the tide in PvE. while soloing elites, they can really up your dps for a short time, in normal instances they give you that extra edge you need to take some bosses down.
granted, most things become useless for molten core or onyxia, but that is to be expected.

i dont agree. hunters rarely use engineered guns due to the fact that most instances/quest give you better items than what an engineer can produce at that given level.
the ammo is true, although you might as well ask a guildmate.
Think about it: paladins are the only class who have no ranged attack to boast about: there is Holy Shock (requires 31 points in Holy talent tree and a lot of mana), Consecration (requires 21 points in Retribution talent tree, a lot of mana and isn't great in damage terms), and Exorcism, which only does damage to Undead and doesn't work in PvP because undead characters are classed as humanoids (why?).
Therefore adding a ranged attack with a Paladin, although it means you cannot use the guns you can make or the ammo, is a surprising yet clever move. Plus, there is the endless comic value of a hordie's face when you throw an explosive sheep at them.
How about you can wear googles much earlier than headgear?
true, but goggles are cloth, so all classes except clothwearers will stop using em soon after that (lvl30-ish they became useless for my shaman and i kept em that long cuz they looked cool :p).
in the endgame, no one wears em.

undead are humanoids because alliance priests could shackle undead players in early beta. hence TOTALLY f**king the balance in PvP. (since horde priest didnt have anything simular vs alliance)

GL HF killing.
Ya cause my rogue has such a vast array of ranged attacks. And my warrior... ya, I can't decided which ranged attack to use with him.
but ya, so in other words.. if your class dosen't have a ranged attack, eng. can give you a decent array of ranged attacks.

O.o Sarcasm...
Rogues and Warriors can learn guns and bows - Pally's cannot. Paladin's have no range attack is a valid statement.
There is a trinket - Linken's Boomerang - that they can equip to give a range attack, but not until Quest completion around lvl 55 or so (it involves a trip to Winterspring)
I have an undead shadow-spec priest who is also an engineer, and those little toys can come in quite handy at times. I was able to get her engineering up quite early due to help of higher-level characters, and there are times when a well placed target dummy or exploding sheep can save your butt. As a soloer, my priest's toys can help make the difference when faced with having to deal with a mob who won't come play without a friend or two ... gives her some AOE ability she would not have otherwise.
Not to mention she had Flying Tiger Goggles (27 Armor, +4 Stamina, +4 Spirit) at level 11.
I'm sure that the utility will go down over time, but in her early levels it's really making a big difference.
And yes, paladins have NO ranged attack. At least rogues and warriors have ranged weapon options. Paladins have nothing. It's one of the reasons my paladin has stalled at level 20.
