Now i took Goblin Engineering because as a Rogue on a PvP server i really thought bombs would help me a lot...
If i could actually make them then maybe but on Euro Zenedar server at least - the materials are off the chart at the AH if they are even there at all.
Dark Iron bomb needs Dense Stone which is hardly ever at the AH and you also need Dark Iron Ore which is also in short supply and is selling for 10g for one or 50g for 8 currently on my AH as a example.
With those prices it's not worth making bombs! You'd be better off buying equip or saving for Epic mount or whatever.
So it seems the whole point of Goblin Engineering - Bombs, is off limits and it's a shame, i wish now i had chosen Gnomish as also it seems they get all their good stuff straight away from the npc where as you get hardly anything as a Goblin engineer, i had to wait to buy Jumper Cables XL on AH and then several days before i saw Dark Iron Bomb to buy and i've not seen any decent Goblin exclusives.
I would like to see Blizzard add something more worthwhile making to Goblin engineering such as a dragon gun that actually does decent damage? Or a massive bomb that is similar in style to the Death Ray.
By the way does anyone know if the Goblin Engineer will offer me anything new at 300 skill lvl or shall i just leave that for now seeing as im only lvl 41 anyway and i heard the only way to get any decent Schimatics is to do high lvl instances and hope for Engineer drops.
Anyone else have comments on the price of making things from the Goblin path? I was planning on taking it up myself, but if the cost of outrageous like that on US Realms, I might not bother and go the Gnome path instead.
Doing high level instances for high level schematics is the way it is for everything.
You have to consider the fact that the Goblin Jumper Cables XL drops off of a level 54 Elite mob in Balckrock Depths, where most of the other high end engineering drops can be found as well.
Seeing as you're only level 41, obviously some of those drops are going to be out of your reach for some time.
Also, in regards to materials, I haven't really had any problems gathering mats for making my bombs. Of course, I actually go out and mine it.... dense stone drops almost all the time off of thorium mines, and it really isn't that hard to stock up huge quantities of the stuff.
As it is, the some of the better goblin engineering items are the Goblin Mortar and Portable Bomb Dispenser.... at least, they were my favorites for a while. Now I opt for simple explosives so that I can keep my trinket slots open for other items.
Dark Iron bars can only be made at the forge in Black Rock Depths. You need 8 Dark Iron Ore to make 1 bar. The ore can only be mined in BRD or occasionally drops from the DI Dwarves in BRD.
In order to learn how to smelt it, a miner must join a group, fight past the Bar, Talk to a ghostly dwarf, give him 20 Gold bars, 10 Truse silver bars and 2 Star rubies to learn the talent.
Every time he wants to smelt he has to joina group willing to go to the Forge in BRD.
why the **** would you waste dark iron on that? thats like making the arcanite bombs! yay, uberbombs for 50G a piece...
Try our new [Arcane Bombs], hurts more to throw one than get hit by one!
Seriously though, as a rogue use Goblin rocket helmet for a 2nd sap (in combat even). Goblin rocket boots for a 2nd sprint. The Big One has a huge radius and is not very hard to make, whilst thorium bombs are incredibly easy for a miner to make (small radius but ok damage).
People cry that engineering is useless too often. I think the problem is that most people aren't creative enough to use engineering items to their full potential.
once you start farming for arcane crystal you will be swimming in dense stone. I usually vendor off 100+ stones at 50s/stack since they dont sell on AH. If you need dense stone just announce it in tradechannel :)
I know... I know... abyssmal failure rate, but I have recovered a raid from a wipe more than once with them. The trick is to vanish or feign death BEFORE you become another casualty.
The Big One still has the best price/perfomance ratio in the game. I use it all the time in instances. The ingredients are dirt cheap, the damage is decent and the stun is great. Only downside is the 3s cast time. But against spire spiders or Gordok Mastiffs they're really great. Just time it right so that it detonates where and when the enemies appear (coordinate with tank)
