taking up engineering

ok, little background. I am lvl 49 and currently have enchanting and tailoring. I now get nothing from tailoring so I am giving it up for engineering.
What would be the best way to start up my engineering?
1) create an alt w/ mining to supply mats to my main
2) take up mining briefly to gather mats for use when I take up engineering
3) just buy everything

opinions please

fyi: leveling engineering to 300/300 in one day with buying everything costs 500G.

(depends on AH prices ofc)

a guildmate did it... (he's crazier than a coconut)

anyway, a combo of taking up mining and buying what you need might be your best option if you decide to go that route.

lucky you.

and i didnt say it would always cost 500G to get to 300/300 & all schematics, i said it costed that much for a guildmate... small difference.

And every server has different prices - so on Sucides server the same goods might be worth 300-600g depending on time of day and perhaps on a different server those goods might be worth much less.

For example - On Gurubashi Prayer of Healing goes for around 300-400g , where as on my main server Shadow Moon you can pick up a copy for only 15g , thats a massive difference.

No doubt some schematics Suasides Guildmate purchased were at a premimum (buy it now) but I guess if you have 500g to spend you dont mind how much it costs you as long as you get it to 300/300.

I hope you mean getting to 200 with your 20 gold which actually enables you to become artisan. Reaching 300 is a very different story as the recipes will consume much more and more rare materials.

However 20g for getting to 200 skill is pretty cheap already imho. I can hardly belive you bought ALL materials for this.

Does anyone know of a good guide that tells what the most efficient path is to raise engineering? One like make this item untill your at this lvl and then move to this item untill your at this lvl and so on?

I don't know of an engineering leveling guide, but I got my engineering to 150 in a couple of days, and I don't have guildies to support me.

Blasting Powder seems to be the cheapest way to do it. Rough Stone (from copper veins) makes rough blasting powder. That will still be green until you get to about 50. Coarse Stone (from tin veins) will make coarse blasting powder, and so on. Arclite Spanners stay orange till you get close to 100. They take 6 copper bars to make. At least they sell okay to Vendors.

Silver Contacts are good till you get 150. It takes 1 silver bar to make 5 silver contacts.

If you can get your hands on Mechanical Squirrel plans, you can learn that at engineering 75, then offer to make them for free if the buyers supply the malachite it requires. That's a good way to level up as well.

The upside is that the materials costs to get to about 200 is cheap. The downside is that everything you make pretty much gets sold to vendors (target dummies can be sold at AH, but requires a lot of different materials).

That's my perspective. I kind of play my own game, so people in guilds and people who have more experience may have better ideas...
