What the?! How could shaddow bolt crit for 3000 dmg, and starfire for 2000? Highest rank shadow bolt does 455 - 507 dmg and starfire does 445 - 525. Now without talents spell crits only do 150% normal damage, which would give shadow bolt a max crit of ~ 750 dmg and starfire a max crit just a little higher than that.
What am I missing? Are there warloc and druid talents that increase those spells damage that much, or are these characters wearing items with +1000 damage?
I'm sure there's nothing funny going on and I'm just missing something...
+Damage items come into play before the critical modifier is applied I believe, so lets work with big round numbers here.
500 Damage Shadow Bolt with +100 damage
Current damage = 600, This crits for 150%
Current Damage = 900
But here is where improved shadow bolt comes into play. Increases the next four sources of shadow damage by 20%, so say you did that again.
600*1.2=720
720*1.5=1080
Now also take into account another destruction talent, ruin. this makes crits do 200% normal damage, as per a melee crit.
600*1.2=720
720*2.0=1440
After adding that, factor in Shadow Mastery, in the Affliction Tree.
At Rank 5 This will increase damage by shadow spells by 10%
So... 600*1.3=780
780*2.0=1560
Now all you need is +damage equip and a maximum Shadow Bolt.
I'll say 507 damage with +200 damage.
707*1.3=919.1
919.1*2.0=1838.2
Round that down, and you have a 1838 damage.
It is probably possible to get much higher amounts then +200 damage, so you could get higher amounts of damage. My math could be skewed however, so watch for that. =)
