stat calculations

allright... ive seen lots of talk about what stats are better than what. ap > agi... sta > agi, etc.

i also remember reading somewhere that some stats have diminishing returns as you level. so that +20 agi at level 15 isn't so great at level 40.

whats the exact impact, point for point of the rogue's stats, and what gets diminishing returns?

how much damage does +1 attack power come out to?
how much attack power does +1 agi come out to?
how much agility do you need for +1 dodge %?
how much agility do you need for +1 crit %?
how much life does +1 sta give you?
how much attack power does +1 str give you?

PS any of you people out there making those wonderful guides... you should consider adding this to them... i cant find this info anywhere.

thanks in advance, and any links pointing me in the right direction would be nice.

I dont have a complete answer but this im a 100% sure of:

Sta is always 10hp per point
Str is always 1AP per point
Agi is always 1AP per point
Agi is around 30 per 1% crit at lvl 60

As for how much damage 1 AP is id check out previous posts of Squigipapa wich shows some nice formulas and explains well how it works. Just use the advanced search function and search bye nickname.

a couple of those questions are class dependant...
for attack power
warriors get +2 for each strength,
rogues get +1 for each point of strength, and +1 for each point of agility,
druids get +2 for each strength, +1 from agility points

those are the only classes i know for that, and crit is the same way, different for each class...

but sta is always +10 per point

so then why do people go for +ap gear over +agi gear?

and thanks for the quick response guys.
also if anyone knows how much agi it takes to get +1 dodge, let me know.

-15 agi for 1% dodge.

Rogues prefer AP gear because AP gear has sometimes more AP than any equivalent agi gear could offer. For example, Pads of the Dread Wolf has something like 40ap which is more than any other boots give dmg-wise.

Nightbrace gives 50 AP - you'd be hard-pressed to find anything with more agi + str than that that's not an MC drop. Of course, this only applies to blues from level 60 instances. After that, your class set is in fact the best you get, since Blizzard have concentrated their efforts on creating good sets for everyone instead of making MC bosses drop random epics.

But before that, the best gear is a mix and match process, where people who go for full Shadowcraft are actually much worse off than people who mix. I've got 3 SC equipped out of the 5 I have. But there are some items that are just so clearly superior to SC.

For example, the SC bracers have 15 agil and 7 stam, whereas Bracers of the Eclipse have 10 agil, 9 stam and 24 attack power. That in addition to the SC set bonuses not being all tha great - if you have Devilsaur you get more stamina and more AP, and for the set of 2 you get 2% to hit as well. SC at 7/8 gives you 2% to hit, but you're forfeiting HP and AP to get the same stat.

The general consensus for an AP-heavy build is that this is the gear you should be aiming for:

Head: SC Cap
Shoulders: Wyrmtongue Shoulders
Neck: Will of the Martyr/Mark of Fordring - both easy to get
Cape: Cape of the Black Baron - for PvP, Emperor's New Cape has 16 stam, which is invaluable
Chest: Nightbrace Tunic/Cadaverous Armor - similar, Nightbrace has 10 stam, but Cadaverous has a total of 78(!) AP vs. 55.
Bracers: Bracers of the Eclipse
Gloves: Devilsaur Gauntlets
Belt: Frostbite Girdle/Shadowcraft Belt - Frostbite is rather rare drop, SC is BoE so buyable
Legs: Devilsaur Leggings
Feet: Pads of the Dread Wolf

That's your basic gear, and this will put you over 700 AP depending slightly on your trinkets, rings, etc. Compare this to full Shadowcraft that puts you somewhere along the lines of 500-550 AP and the advantages should be clear.

AP applies to every attack that hits, increasing your crit damage as well. Crit shouldn't be neglected, and you'll still find that you'll have well over 200 agility with this gear. It's something to aim for, and with nearly this exact setup I'm always the highest-dealing blue-geared rogue in our runs. Of course, you still get steamrolled by Nightslayer rogues, but that's supposed to happen.
