Depends on if you are only going to PvP your entire gaming career. The PvP rewards from rank 8+ are all about Stamina and AP and DMG and such. They work decent in raiding, but only so much. The versatility of the Tier 1 and Tier 2 sets make them much nicer for end game raiding. Only exception to this that I've seen is the players that have reached Warlord/Marshal up to HWarlord/GMarshal. That gear is SICK. Rogue with almost 6K HP scares me. ><

the reason i ask, is basically i wonder if it'll be worth just pvping to oblivion, rather than entering endless instances hoping i'll get a lucky roll!!

(my character is cursed by the way.... he cant roll a high number for love nor money)

just about to make blood guard (a centimetre away) and the gear for blood guard looks so sweet for my shammy... better than any drops so far..

been to dm like 30 times havent been lucky even being the only mail wearer. other options are to get into a high lvl instance and they do take hours to complete..
(went to zg with guild recently took 4 hours to get through the 1st boss)

so my point is pvp the way to go for peeps who are unlucky with the dice and unlucky with drops rates..

incidently my priest always rolls high .. i think blizz made some lucky and others not so

Just a word of warning, the warlord gear is sick because it requires a sick amount of time to get it.

You will have to pvp grind for months...I have heard 3-6 months, depending on server.

(I'm just jealous of the people who have it b/c I won't ever be able to get that gear)

i have not joined a raiding guild, because i'm a casual player. as much as i want to, i can't promise 4 hours of activity each night. as such, i'm probably going to be PvP'ing like, an hour a night or so .. .more on some days, less on others. it only took a couple of games to AB and WSG to get me to rank 3 (sergeant). i'm guessing i'll probably try get most of the PvP gear.

what i want to say though, don't ignore the faction rep equipment! i've seen some nice stuff from argent dawn, zalandar tribe and timbermaw ... even if you're not in a raiding guild, timbermaw/AD faction, at the very least, isn't hard to solo.

If you think 1 hour a day is going to net you anything higher than rank 6, I'm sorry. The early ranks are very easy but it gets very hard, very fast. Grinding for the higher ranks is a 24/7 job.

I agree with Starlitsky about grinding for rep. Alterac Valley has some things at exalted that are amazing. It's not easy to get there, but it's certainly easier than getting past rank 6 or collecting any gear past tier 0.

As an example, I started AV from having 0 stormpike rep. I played for 2 days = 3 wins and 1 loss - and I went all the way through neutral to 75% friendly. I've heard it only takes about 30 AV wins to get exalted.

It also depends on the server and the side that you play. To advance on Horde side you have to play more on my server, but Alliance has long queues, while Horde always gets in (Ally:Horde = more than 2:1)

I posted my advances over the last few weeks/ranks in another thread. basically I am taking about 10-11 weeks to get from rank 7 to rank 10 with about 2 hours PvP per day, mostly PuGs.

But a 6 piece PvP gear is not bad and the staff for being Exalted with Defilers is quiet nice. Shoulders don't look to bad either.

Of course I cannot say if I could have collected a full Dreadmist by that time. All I know is that I did UBRS about 10 times..no Dreadmist. 5 Scholos, no Dreadmist. 10 LBRS and Dreadmist Bracers, the other part (gloves) I bought.

With PvP I can play in my own time, leave partys I dont like after the game and no "Sorry have to go" in the middle of a run.

Champions gear is >> Teir 0 set (elements)
Warlords gear is around = to teir 1 set (earthfur)
Warlords gear is <<< Teir 2 set (10 storms)

The pvp sets are only 6 peices, and the 4 peice bonuses are usually good.

IMO the 4 peice shaman set is awesome but that is easily offset by the fact that the gear is confused and has alot of spell dmg and some physical crit... (imo for an elem resto shaman the set only has 4 usable peices).

Dont expect to be able to compete with raiding guilds even if everyone on your team has the warlords gear.

The pve gear is better specially for the damage dealing classes. For stuff like druids the pve gear is mostly healing, and for shamans the teir 1 set is also healing and in that sense its not that great for pvp. But the amount of stats on teir 1 offsets the lack of damage. Further, the teir 2 sets are just great all round....

On my server the horde wins WSG and AB maybe MAYBE 1% of the time. So rep rewards arent really available to me :(

I have been playing almost exclusively PvP for about 6 months. I have spent about 400 hours on PvP, and I'm rank 10. In 400 hours I could have done around 100 instances. I think that 100 instance runs would have given better reward than rank 10.

If I had played my 400 hours in a period of 2 months instead of 6. I would probably have been rank 12, and then maybe PvP would have been worth it.

PvP is best done in a burst, playing a little every week for a long time won't get you anywhere, but playing alot in a short time will get you much further.

If you have something like a summer holliday where you can play 8+ hours a day for 1-2 months, you can get good reward from PvP. So my suggestion is to do PvE when you play casually, but if you have the oportunity to play hardcore for a shorter burst, you can go PvP.

The reputation rewards is a different matter though, since you rep is directly proportional to the amount of time you spend, so it doesn't matter if you play 400 hours over 1 month or 1 year.
