I am curious as to why we have them. The way I understand it, DKs were initiated to placate the people crying about their quest npcs being killed during raids on their towns. Now TM and SS, Xroads and the like are boring, as no one is willing to risk their pvp ranking because someone kills a civilian in the bloodlust.
Well, why not just make quest npcs and merchants invulnerable and permarooted? Or an invalid target? Or am I totally missing something....?
I guess another reason is to allow low level players to quest in peace, in places like Crossroads and Astranaar. Might just stop some bored level 60's deciding to gank everyone ...
Maybe also to allow some kind of stratagy and team work in town raids. Before it was just kill everything in sight - now you have to beware of DK's, so it means co-ordinating with others, being careful where you attack and whom ...
But mainly (according to all the whiners on the official boards), it's because Blizz are clueless and hate all their players
I think blizzard mistakingly thought we only have carebear servers...
What I particularly dislike is when you have an uneven grouping (e.g. lvl 47 and a bunch of 60s). The lower level one might get attacked by what is a civi to the 60s, yet not to them and kill it... Instant DK for the entire family other than the 47.
DKs are horridly implemented imo and really have no place on PvP servers at all. Just make it so you can't damage a civi and they can't damage you. Problem solved.
The Forsaken want to kill all things human. How do dk's fit into their lore?
Honor isn't just your perception, but what others see of your actions? The forsaken could care less, but the rest of the horde doesn't like it too much.
Well, not to flaunt my own mod or any others that have it incorporated (Dishonorable Kill Spotter for one), but my HonorTab mod has it set by default that you can't target a civilian and hence, can't attack them at all. Taking this one step further like DKS has, pet and party detection can have you removed from the party to prevent others from getting a DK from your actions or others.
I personally think DKs came strictly from XR and TM raids..it's not just alliance, it's horde as well. Before honor was implemented, you'd have a horde group of 60s right outside of SS nailing everything in sight. After honor, you had alliance just rolling through TM. Biggest difference was that SS did NOT have the guard details like TM does (still doesn't) and hence, more civilians could get killed.
Take someone like me, who could care less about dk's and PVP ranking. Suppose I wanna go to XR and get revenge on those gaurds that killed me a few times on way to get my Succy, any downside besides being flagged for PVP? I really could care less, if I am the lowest ranked PVP in the game.
