Character limit.

At the risk of getting myself in trouble with forum mods I am posting this here, because I was getting no help in the tech forums.

Ok, so I just bought WoW today, I installed it, downloaded the patches and all that fun junk. I then proceeded to make my FIRST character, after all the grief of choosing his race, class, features and name, when I clicked "Continue", "Proceed", etc... It said : "You have the maximum amount of characters allowed on this account". When in actual fact I haven't even made one, I emailed WoW's tech support, but I thought it would be faster to post on a forum. Help is much appreciated thank you.

Sheesh, that really sucks. Sounds like someone has already used the cd-key in your copy of the game. Did it come from the store shrink-wrapped? If so, maybe someone somewhere guessed a key and got yours. If not, maybe the item is used and the store didn't tell you.

I'd be following that email to tech support up with a phone call.

Also, go get the reciept for the game from the rubbish bin. You're going to need it.

If there are already 50 characters created on that account then you should be able to see them and use them (or delete them). However, I'd suggest that you don't. The worry for you is not that someone has used the key before, it is what they did with the account. If they've been doing bad stuff then the cd key may be marked as bad by Blizzard.

If you are in New Zealand then your recourse is with the store that sold it. if a product is not suitable for the purpose for which you bought it then a merchant is obliged to provide you with alternate product or your money back. Of course, you need to check what rights you have as a consumer in your country.

Hope you get this sorted out.

Cheers
Craig

Max is 50 total with a 10 / server limit.

If you can sign in you should be able to delete any characters that might already be created on that account. On the screen where you choose your character there should be a 'Select server' button - when the server list comes up, sort it by Characters and it should list the servers with your accounts characters at the top. Go into those servers and delete the characters. This might not work though as servers with characters may not show those characters... something to do with patches i think.

There is another way, go to the main World of Warcraft official forums and log in - again, if you can log into the account to the point you can make a character, you should be able to log into the forums (note: they do have issues, especially on patch day). Once you've logged into the forums, goto 'Select Character', that will list all the characters created on that account and the servers they are on. Then sign into the game, go to those servers and delete any characters you don't want.

Good luck!
