what is +5 mace skill worth?

the human passive ability is weapon mastery like +5 to maces skill, and +5 to sword skill.. just curious, but what is +5 really worth? should i drop my axe with higher dps for a mace with +5 mace skill?

All that means is that you get an extra 5 points to you total mace skills and same for swords skill. But if your ax skill is higher than mace skill stick with the ax.

Actually...

If anything, +5 to a skill will always give you an edge in damage.

At lvl 60, you'll have 305 Skill in Maces, thus giving you a lvl higher in Dmg, Crit%, Hit% and overall DPS.

You'll also be dodged/parried/blocked less. In endgame raiding instances, +weapon skill is one of the best stats for melee classes, as it reduces the damage penalty from glancing blows, which take a large chunk out of your dps. +10 skill is what you'd want to aim for, past that is a minimal (if any) improvement. So if you've got a racial bonus for a weapon type you're actually using, you're halfway there.

It is the equivalant of being one level higher. So if you are a level 3 warrior with a +5 skill, you will be attacking as a level 4.

It reduces the ability of the opponent to dodge/parry etc. It also reduces the chance for glancing blows.

+5 weapon skill will give you 0.20% more crit and hit (0.04% per point). Same thing goes for reducing your opponents chance to dodge/parry. This bonus isn't that much really. But when you face higher level mobs, it will also reduce the damage lost to Glancing Blows (it will not reduce the frequency of Glancing Blows, only the amount of damage lost).

+Weapon Skill is a PvE oriented bonus, and can boost your DPS a lot in end-game instances where you are fighting level 63 mobs + Bosses
