I do not know if this has been mentioned before. but I think blizzard should add an option to the Flight Paths to allow instant travel, for say 25-50% extra fee.
The time it takes to travel from Un'goro to Rut'theran is so long they should provide an inflight movie.
I for one would jump at the chance to get there in an instant, like using you HearthStone.
I don't know if they would do that, but i think they should have an estimated flight time. Like your flying to Ungoro from Ashenvale it'll say that the flight will last 12 minutes so you know you have 12 minutes where you can go watch tv, read the newspaper, get a snack, etc. It beats sitting in front of your computer not sure how long it'll take.

If you go to the Inn in Darnassus, click the Innkeepr and then click where it says "Make this Inn my home". There. Now you CAN use your hearthstone and get there instantly.
Seriously though, I don't think it's in their (Blizzard's) best interest to start adding "conveniences" into the game just because people get bored with some parts. I think it would also take away from the atmosphere of the game world. It's supposed to take you a long time to fly clear across the continent. Even your travel plans involve a certain amount of strategy.
Besides, if they did that, someone else would suggest they add an option at your trainer so you could buy exp levels after level 55 or so. "Well, 'cause I already did the quest thing and the grinding thing for 55 levels. Now I just wanna get to 60."
One of the actually good features of anarachy online :P, the grid was great too.

Valid point, instantantaneous travel makes a game world feel alot smaller and less 'epic'; a classic example of this is guild wars, where you can teleport to any town in the (already small) world simply by clicking it on the map, this made the game feel very small indeed.
At the end of the day, unless you're flying from Light's Hope to Booty Bay, most flights don't take very long, simply go afk and get a drink and something to eat and when you come back it will be done :)

I suggest the addon 'Enhanced Flightmap'. It does exactly that. The first time it measures how long it takes. Next time it will show you an 'Arrival in 10m26s'.

It takes 12 minutes to fly around on the continent, yet when you get on a boat to cross the GREAT see, it takes a very short time.
The distance between continents on the map looks like it is quite a distance.
Why the short travel time on boats, while at the same time long flights?
At least on a boat I can disenchant some items, or tailor some items even duel some people. When you are flying its a real snoozefest.
If they want travel to reflect the game atmosphere there should be 15 minute boatrides from the wetlands to darnassus as it is just as far as any flightpath. Make you look at the coast, the great vortex in the middle of the ocean.. etc.
Why not change flying so that you fly for a second or two *like getting on the boat* then you get your minimap showing your flightpath *just like the boat* and then you land quickly after. I think most if not all people would /cheer. I only get to play for a couple of hours a night myself, and it is annoying when you have to spend 15 minutes flying all over the place.
Good Idea but it will never happen, it is in Blizzards best interest to keep you on the game as long as possible. The longer it takes you to complete something the more profit they make. Why do you think it takes days and months to get exhalted rep. Because they make more money. 6million subscribers - about 97million in revenue a month.

If i'm grinding rep, I am actually accomplishing something. Once I grind this rep I won't have to do it again and I actually get something out of it.
While I take the same flights... over, and over... and over...
Very often, if I have to take a 5 minute flight I'll just log and build up some rest xp and do it the next time I get on. If i could get a very quick flight I would probably play even longer.
All that being said, I commonly pay 5g for a port to darnassus...my wife plays a mage and hasn't quite hit 50 yet to get the port. I will often pay 20-25g for a lock summon to a place that I know will take me an annoying amount of time to fly to. With the LFG global it isn't that hard to find someone willing to score some easy $

Boat rides are still a "time sink" as they do not depart as soon as you click an NPC. Just like the Tram, you have to stand and wait for it to arrive and even then (in the case of the ships) it doesn't depart right away.

I agree with you there. I think it would be great and interesting if you actually experienced sea travel, and it would be fun being able to craft or whatnot while on board. Alas...they probably will never do that because of the server changes between continents. They need that blank screen (with the map and the dotted red line) while moving you to the other server.

Among the previous reasons mentioned, I guess you could also say "for the same reason they don't make any 30 minute high end instances." It's just not part of the game design. I rarely have a 5 or 6 hour block of time to play, so I've had to accept the fact that my play time will not involve many high level raids. It's either that, quit playing WoW alltogether or quit my job.

LOL, and there's another reason. How would Locks and Mages make that extra coin if there were instant teleports available at all the FM's ?
